We are going to head to the west coast of Scotland on saturday, around loose bay area, to see what is knocking about .I am going to take the spinning rod just in case there is any macky about,as well as two bait rods, we are going to take sand eels and rag with a couple of macky in case we don't catch any up there.Quite looking forward to doing a bit of sea fishing for a change ,hope the gear is ok ,will have to get it out of the mothballs,i will post the results of our trip and if we get anything decent will post pictures--Karl:):)

Well if you are going to do it now is the time of year , loads of different species, sand eel is about the best all round bait up there ,at least that is my opinion, but other people may differ--Karl

9 of us are going up on Saturday morning around 4:30am:o lol as were fishing a match ;)
I personally have never fished there but 1 of the lads who is going with us has and he said the fishing is ace. We will be using the same bait as you.

Fished just about every year for last 14 up there and it is a nice spot for many species, like most spots its getting over fished but still lots of good pollack, doggies, coalie, congor and the odd rare species such as huss, bass etc from shore and boat.

I like the pollack fishing best up there

Adam if you have'nt been before watch the rocks if they are wet mind, they are very slippy mate. Make sure you all bring your rubbish back to the car too it is really bad up there and a lot of it is being blamed on anglers from this area, don't give people any more ammo to shoot us down any more mate ;) It probably won't matter where you fish, you will find rubbish just about everywhere, such a shame for such a beautiful area.

Jim.

I never take the big gear up there now. I take my carp rod for float fishing and a Conoflex Assassin for spinning and plugging. I got one of those waist belt bags as well so I can hop from mark to mark - beats lugging a heavy bag/box about.

Take some ragworm as well Karl

If you are bottom fishing be prepared for a Doggy fest, its lifting with them.
I was over 2 weeks ago, even catching them on 8/0 hooks and half a macky when fishing for Conger.....

Im not a doggy lover myself, but we are going to a place called trivially bay[i think that is how it is spelt], it is a small shingle beach that has a good depth and it is only a few yards from where you park your car , so you can leave your eatables in the car and then you don't leave litter ,it is a very comfortable place to fish with a good variety of species , and yes the doggys are there, but there is [or i hope there is] quite a few other types of fish, there is even a possibility of getting a tope, got my fingers crossed, but we will have to wait and see---Karl

Terally bay on Luce Bay

To be honest Karl, that'd be the last place I fished after travelling all the way over there.

Hello Karl just dusted my stuff off yesterday with a visit to the Hartlepool. It was great being on the beach again-there is nothing like fishing for wild fish (trout are ok but they are stocked).
I have never caught a dog fish---and i have fished the south coast.
Have a nice time-are you lads in digs, camping or sleeping in the motor?-or is it a day trip.
Cheers mick.

Up to now it is only a day trip ,but if we start to catch well, who knows ,we might stay up all night ,but we won't be camping, we will be fishing all the time ,as for sleep, i will be taking my carp chair , so i will get a few zzz's in when no one is looking. As for the other remark about it would be the last place where one of the lads would go , we are only going there for a day out ,the crack and a few fish is a bonus , it is comfortable ,a very easy carry and the car is safe as you can see it. We know it is not the best place for fishing in scotland and we are under no illusions about this , having a good and pleasant day or nights fishing is far above catching loads of fish and being uncomfortable, with miles to walk back to the car.But it is horses for courses i suppose in this case .--Karl :):)

I know what you're saying Karl, but one of my favourite Pollack marks is less then half a mile from a public car park and very rarely gets fished. I know this because seagulls still nest there and you can only fish it later on in the season. The car is safe, I'm safe and the scenery is fantastic.

I know where you are coming from dave, but like i say it is literally 15 yards from the car to the beach and at 22 stone you don't want to be walking 50 yards carrying gear, never mind half a mile, so i will stick to the venue that we picked, if there is no fish then i will blame my mate jeff as he is a lot smaller than me so it will be his fault, however if we get a lot of fish then I have picked a good spot ,i can't lose which ever way it goes ,but thanks for the imput--Karl

No problem Karl, have a good trip anyway. I'm hopefully up there for a few days in August.

Let us know how you got on anyway.
