West Scotland Fishing marks.

Hi Troops,
Just wondering if anyone knows of any good marks at this time of year up in west Scotland, I'm currently working in Glasgow for long periods & want to get out to the coast, I've heard Helensburgh, Greenock, Largs Wemyess bay areas are potentially good?
But I could do with a few pointers from anyone who's fished up this way if possible?

I have fished Largs a few times and it is a good spot for cod and whiting. Don't use giant baits as they wont take them , get out as far as you can . Try a boat trip during week its cany cheap for half day trips.

Last time I fished at Helensburgh, from one of the pontoons at the Faslane base I got two codlings - one 13lb and one 9lb. Sadly before you were born in 1979.

In what year did you last have a boat fishing trip out of Largs? I can assure you there are no trips anymore!

Only 9lb and 13lbs? That was a poor day back in those days! :)

Oh to be able to turn back time. Lynn and I could stay home and meet the guys from the North East, when they come in their droves to fish the Clyde.

Happy days indeed!

Ah but there was a reason why it was so poor. The day in question, August time, was part of the wonderful summer of 1976 and the evening session was conducted in what could only be described as total and utter stillness. I was wearing the latest in anti - midge protection, a pair of tights over my head with the eyes and mouth cut out, giving the afore mentioned insects the minutest of targets, which, of course, they concentrated on, leaving me spending the minimum of time watching the rod and the majority running up and down the pontoon, Basil Fawlteyesque, endeavouring to remove them from the hopelessly inadequate netting.

Happy days indeed.

last time I was up there, the piers where full of Giant Red coloured Jelly Fish, about a yard across, from Faslane and all the way to Gairloch head, and that was well before 1979, and even before 1976..lol.

My God the summer of 76, I remember it too. It shows you how crap the weather is up here, when we still quote 1976!! :)
