what a big supprise on the beech

well last night i was un sure what to do if to go out or not straight after the night shift that was all decided after i dorve to the beech just after 0600 to tyake a look decided there and then to get the waiders out and the razor fish and rod and head down to the rocks at blackhall fished an hour on the cliffe had a slack liner with no connection so moved down beside the rocks and this was the result i feel rather lucky to have caught it

did at first but sayin that i was using heavy gear cos i was in the rocks it was caught colse in tho

yep was a shock to me too but from what i read they used to catch them back in the 70's on rod and line but not very often they have a tendancy to beech themselves too guess im just one of the luck ones to have a new fish added to the collection really nice eating too just had a bit for ma tea

There's been a few washed up lately rays bream i think they are called.

just sent an email off to sea angler with a pic just to confirm it is a ray's bream and find out how often they are line caught hope to get a reply some time soon

Theres been a few washed up on cambouis rocks as well as blyth beach, got a photo somewhere of one

Cheer's Coddy, didn't know that mate. Just did a Google and it looks like they get washed up all down the east coast, found them from Berwick down to Norfolk. I wonder why they do it, usually it's something to do with breeding but I don't know. It's a pity as I reckon they would be great sport, as long as they didn't bite you off as they have a canny set of teeth on them.

7.15 lb from Hartlepool in 1967, not a bad fish that. They reckon they are very good eating too.

Congratulations! you find them in all the fish markets in the UAE so Im assuming they inhabbit the warmer waters of the gulf as well as the North Sea! great catch!

i have heard that they get pushed into the english channel from the warmer waters of the gulf stream when there are big seas and the up the east coast, the temp change even though its only a couple of degrees makes them go looking for warmer water which is often closer to the shore, the body shape often causes them to be washed ashore when caught in the waves....whether this is right i dont know ... but it sounds a canny explanation

Well done--never caught one of them. My mate caught a big Black Bream in a compo down south once and he said it tasted lovely when cooked.

ive heard it was summit to do with the shape and size of them too in the shallows have no where to turn too...they are a great tasting fish mick first tiome ive ever seen one still never put me off tryin it tho really nice fish and plent of meat on them too next time im on the beech for a walk i might have to keep ma eye's peeled for free lunch

i fished the beach on fri neet and a one beached itself in front of me it was about 4-5 pound a massive thing
