What a Week

I enjoyed a couple of short sessions at low water last Sat and Sunday, making the most of a good sea to fish Whitley beach. Bites came thick and fast as soon as it was dark, resulting in fish all about 2 ½ to 3lb.

Tonight we decided to give the beach a miss as the sea had dropped and went in search of bigger fish. The choice was either Sharpness point of Castle Rocks. Sharpness won because the walk is shorter.

I pulled a pound and a half fish out followed by a much better one, which was about 2oz heavier than the fish Steve was about to catch.
He pulled a 6 ¾ pounder out so mine must have been 6-13 :) or so I told him. More fish followed, up to the winter's usual 3lb, until he hooked a second big one that snapped the hook trace as it came in over the last 20yards. If he'd landed it we'd have had over 20lb from 3 fish.

We packed up after using up all the peeler and lug in only two and a half hours, but what a great 2 ½ hours they were. This is proving to be one of the best seasons in years.

Steve with his fish; all the others were carefully put back to grow even bigger.

Lots of people catching at the moment and some good cod. A lot of people say it fishes better when it's cold weather !!!! Does this mean that it's going to fish its boobs of in the cold. Anyone think the same ? That's a cracking fish.

Well done its a beach I have never fished before.
Mick.

It’s been well worth a look when any sea is running this winter.

If you want to visit, try starting at the Rendezvous café and work your way up or down the beach depending on where looks good, it’s small enough quickly get a feel for, or drop me a PM some time.
