What lure???

Over the past few years, as some of you will know, I've really got into lure fishing and have moved on from the budget combs and aldi reels to some better quality gear. When it comes to lures I have a wide range, from cheap 0.99p to some I've paid nearly £20.00 for but do the high end lure catch more fish?

I'm a firm believer that when bait fishing, whatever bait you cast out if the fish are there they will take it, i don't often buy crab and tent to fish with Yellows. Do you think its the same with lures, if the fish are there will they hit a 0.99p lure as hard as a £20 one.

Discuss!!

Zenith Silver Minnow 28g spinners from Reelsports £1.30 each caught loads on them

These are my 'go-to' lure, I've had every Mackerel, Pollock, Coalie, Launce, codling and Bass on these. That said I've had days when the fish have been higher up and these have got me nothing and my surface lures have.

In my opinion it all depends on the type of lure, spinners don't need to be fancy afterall there just reflecting light. Poppers - for me its not about price its about weight and how much 'pop' the create it doesn't have to be to bling. Plugs and shallow dives - how this is where i spend my money, in my opinion the 'cheeper' of these don't have as good an action or cast as well the more expensive ones.

My most successful lure was carved from the end of a broom handle and painted white with a red head! A teaspoon blade was inserted as a diving vane and it worked great for pollack!

different colours, different sizes, different action ,some deep some for just under, some with rattles, some with joints, some jellys and a bag of worms if the luers don't work. Just looked in my box and i was carrying 34 lures by the end of last year about 20 of which have had fish on. I always start with silver and black or if colored water gold and black after about 10 casts I change lures use a clip swivel so your not tying knots all day. As for weight find what your rod will cast and go a few grams up and down. use braid if you can justify spending the money and have a big box at home to keep all the lures that you keep buying and know are fish killers.

Has anyone tried these.?

As already stated the 28g minnows or dexter wedges are good cheap lures, I'm a bit worried about paying £20 for a lure incase it gets snagged up and lost, typically on the first cast lol.

lol its a risk, the way I look at it £20 is 2 bait fishing sessions, if I get a few sessions out of a lure im in credit. And I ain't lost any pricey ones yet.

omg £20 for lures that is petrol money for a trip up the road and using bait and normal spinners and having a cracking day out must have money to burn some of ya,s........

and also some of ya,s think yas are top lure anglers more like mugs :D

I'm not convinced, how many crab do you use a session 10-20. Now obviously you collect your own but for those of us that don't that would be what, 10 - 20 quid. A session if you fish only every 2 weeks over the winter say October till January, call it 18 weeks, that's 90-180 quid. £20 for a lure that may last you more than 1 season aint that bad in comparison. IMHO.

Anyway we digress the original question was do expensive lures catch more fish, im only really in my second year of 'propper' lure fishing, that is im taking it seriously and targeting species, and upto now im unsure, my more expensive lures have better action but do the fish care, I don't know time will tell. Be under no illusions 95% of my lures are cheep ones, im not a 'tackle tart' more a 'tackle slapper' lol
