What make and class of boat rod do prefer and why.
I am thinking of buying a boat rod so i would like some opinions from the boat men on this site, the men in the front line so to speak.
I am thinking an all round rod something can handle our North sea fishing.

i use a daiwa tdx 30lb class boat rod (bit expensive) have owned it for over a year and can honnestly say its the best boat rod i have ever owned but the ron thompson zensorflex came close and its cheap as chips aswell

Fladen Maxximus solid carbon, thinner at the butt end than some 20lb class rods at the tip end.

The most positive thing I can say about them is "Bert hasn't managed to snap one yet" :D

Sonic SK4 and Shakespeare Ugly Stiks for me...:)

I use 15lb to 20lb class rods for wrecking and general fishing, as long as you treat them sensibly they will cope easily, i.e if you are fast in the rocks or wreck, snap it out by hand and not by yanking on the rod, as i found out to my expense last year, and ended up with a 6 piece rod.

Good Luck with the search mate...

20lb Class rod will suit all your needs...

...that said I was fishing with a Fladen Maxximus Solid carbon (green one) for 2 years and loved it - sold it for a bit of extra cash last year and now regret it...will be getting another as soon as funds allow :D

Same as Jester, I`m using the sonik SK4 12-20lbs boat with an ugly stick 20lb as a backup, both with Shimano TLD15 reels and filled with Dynon 3000 55 lbd braid ....

:) hope this helps

ive got loads of different rods, uglystisks,a power stick a fladden maximus and others but the one i prefer is a shakespeare beastmaster 20-30lb class think it was about £80 quid when i got it about about 6 year ago so theyll be alot cheaper now as they were new on the market at the time! it all depends on how much your wanting to spend and how often your going to use it!plenty of choice on the market to suit every pocket

Managed to get a Fladen Maxx solid carbon 20-60 lb, jig max 250g, 8ft in very good condition, I have a Shimano torium 14 reel 4 bearing 6.2:1 loaded with 25lb main line and 70lb shock lead, so to get to the point is this a good combo for wreck fishing.:D

Sounds like an ideal setup! I also use the fladen maxximus, handled huge cod in norway no problem, hopefully its gonna get another work out on the halibut over there this year, also so light and thin could probably use it as a spinning rod!

Hello,
I like my Daiwa Super Kenzaki for shad fishing
On the kayak I have been using a Fladen Maxximus orange and a short Fladen Ice rod.

Regards Ian

i am just a wee bit unsure if the reel is up to fishing wrecks.
thanks for you replies.:)

Hello,
This is just my opinion but I think that the Torium 14 is too light for wrecking. I use a saltist 40 levelwind. The Penn 320 reels are also very popular as are the TLD reels.

I also use braid of around 50lb or 65lb and put plenty on the reel in case I lose some. If this seems heavy remember braid is very thin and with this breaking strain you will more often than not just lose your trace, (muppets, hokki's, pirk or whatever), enabling you to tackle up quickly again for the next drop.

Some lads fish lighter which is fine but this works well for me and I can easily switch from shads to pirks or hokki's without fuss.

Regards Ian
