whats your favourite rod for rough ground

Well i have changed my thinking on rod choice after my trip to Norway. The first rod i used over there was the New Century Eliminator which was a great strong rod and pulled fish in with ease, it did start giving me a bad back tho (was using it for hours and hours at a time)

I then switched to a Century Carbon Metal which are a lot less powerfull but the sport you got pulling the fish in on it was so much better. The ground we fished was maybe a bit less snaggy than over here but when you were snagged or had to get a fish over the rocks then ledges they handled fine.

I'll deffo be trying softer rods as much as possible over here.

already theres about a dozen or so different rods mentioned...each one has its merits .. i must agree with what Goerdie G and Willywetegg says ..its down to what suits you best... there are so many different rods on the market... and it seem like there isnt a clear leader among them but the conoflex nemisis seems to be the most popular so far..
thanks for your time and comments lads

I suppose its just like picking a car really? Some people have different opinions on what is best for them. Some are sporty, quick and a hard ride while some are smooth and comfortable. Some make do with an old banger while others might change theirs every year or so. Everyone has a different opinion on a certain type of car, some will rave about its good points, others will moan about its bad points. ;)

i use 2 greys jupiter for all my fishing cant beat them
i bought an apoll0 m3 butt it didnt have a pach on the jupiter's

conoflex highlander anybody

Conoflex highlander for me mate for the heaviest of grounds. I mostly use my AFAW rock rod as it's stiff in the wind but very light and strong but if I want one which I know I can pull anything in on any ground or cliff then that's what I'll take with me. Strongest rod I've ever used. Suppose everyone has their own favourites. I had a nemesis plus and didn't really like it, thought it was a bit too floppy.

I like the 216 still and for lighter conditions use a Grey's Nitra. Both of these are 13 1/2 ft long which gives more reach and to steer fish around rock ledges and kelp.

Its funny that, i thought the same when i was in Iceland. I ended up doing a lot of fishing with a penn affinity bass rod. I was lobbing 5 oz and bait about 50-60yds and fish between 3-6lb came out oh so easy, you could feel everything yet easily keep the fish moving. No problems pulling the hook and much more sensitive to bites. I think light balanced tackle would easily outfish the heavy gear. I think rods have gone OTT and are no longer fishing rods, we concentrate far too much on casting ability. Im a tourney caster btw!!

I fly fish and think its the same for that too, the lighter the tackle the more effective it can be as long as its balanced and not overgunned.

Loved my Nemesis Plus SLR and used it loads until I smashed 3 rings last year. While it was getting re-rung I got an SK4 and it's been absolutely great, lovely smooth casting and has landed conger to 17lb. Used the Nemesis again last week and it feels strange, think the SK4 now takes the edge.
