for that price i dont think it will have the compression in it to be honest, i had a fladen 13ft and could cast max 60yds, bought a VFM off my mate and can do alot better, not gonna say what because if could cause one of them distance wars lol
but honestly quality matters mate, maybe expensive but its well worth the money

Lifetime guarantee? their definition and mine are poles apart, here's a little tale to explain why.
Good mate of mine broke the tip of his fly rod a couple of months back. He'd only had it a couple of years so he took it back to the tackle shop where he bought it. They told him the usual way was to post it up to Greys explain the circumstances and he'd be sent a new tip albeit there would be a handling charge of £25 or £30 can't remember exactly which.
Anyway the pair of us were heading up to Eyemouth so we called in to Alnwick on the way thinking two birds one stone.
Went in an explained the situation and what happened next was a joke.
"I'm sorry Sir but you can't have a new tip as that rod is now out of production"
"So what about this Lifetime Guarantee then" says me mate
"Err that only applies to that rod Sir but as a valued customer we can let you have the updated version"
"That'll do nicely " says me mate "That's me sorted"
"BUT there'll be a small surcharge for the newer version"
"How small are we talking here?" says me mate
"We can let you have it for only £50"
"Only £50" says me mate
"Yes plus the £30 handling charge"
"WHAT! So this Lifetime Guarantee is going to cost me £50 for a new rod and a further £30 for something you haven't even handled but want to charge me for"
"Yes Sir"

Just bought a Sonik SK4 16ft job. Went up to Blyth and saw Tony, had a few casts on the beach with his rod. Casts like a dream. Shelled out 220 quid but comes with 5 year warranty and if you take part in their Rapidex deal, from £35 you get garanteed exchange of rod no matter how you break it. According to their bumf, if that rod is out of production, they will replace it with equivelant production model. Seems canny to me.

ave got a platinum gsi n my whole end section came off as i casted ,got snaged n watched it disseper into the depths.went up2 greys they give me a new section 4 nowt.i also took me waders bk as they had a leek after 10 months n they give is a new pair again 4 nowt so av no problems with them.

andrew what rod are you using? casting at distance is all about these things 1. rod (compression not length) 2. Reel and 3. the most important thing is how you cast.
I don't claim to be able to cast far but this is what i've learned, smoothness and technique far out ways power, casting as hard as you can normally means your rod compresses far too early, Also remember always look 45 degrees from the horizon, this way your mind lets the line go at that angle.
ofcourse after you have mastered the technique then factors like line diameter, line type, brakes (or mags), spool tightness, length of rod (depending on what cast you are doing) come into it.
remember its all well and good having a 160yrd cast but if the fish are 40yrds out you've shot yourself in the foot lol

a see whot ya mean am of fishen t day so al have a practis a dont no whot kind ov rod it its but its very bendy me mates got a cod 6 thats good with the abo but a carnt use multeplyers a get a lot ferther with a fixt spool the fearthist cast av dune is a dont no if u no blyth pier very well but thers like a lill post neat t it a can just reach that with a fixt spool

Hi mate, that red post is 90 yards off Blyth pier, about one third of the way across the river - where the piers are parallel Cambois pier is about 270 yards away. Out of curiosity I measured the distances on Google earth. If you go to the end of Blyth pier, the lighthouse on the end of the other pier is about 180 yards away, so it gives you some idea of how far you're casting.
Got the 16 foot Sonik myself back in feb/march and I really like it! I can throw just as far with my 14 ft rods, but the 16 footer just makes everything feel very lazy & the extra length sometimes helps keep my line above the surf - I get a bit of extra leverage when fishing the Tyne as well to get up and over those snags quickly!

ps. I'm in Blyth too and use the big rod a lot on the pier - so if you're down the same time as me you can see it in action. At the moment though, there're probably too many spinning & feathering, so I tend to sneak down early morning to try & get a few plaice (when the weather's settled!)
