We were off on sat morning and conditions were very good for wreck fishing but for very little returns , it ended up in a little species hunt . We took cod, mackeral, chickinz, coalie, scotchie, dabs and gurnard .. great fun with the dabs !
Looks like the cod have vanished for now so weather permitting the weekend is going to be a anchor job on a few spots close inside with various baits to see what comes along .. . It's a waste of time and fuel rushing from wreck to wreck at the moment so why not ? Watch this space !

Aye bert too true .... I've been doing regular 45 mile trips in search of fish (roughly speaking thats about 45 ltrs) and mostly for little return.
Don't know where the cod have gone this season .... It has to be driven by weather ,,,, but which bit of the weather :D :D :D

see you saturday no doubt ....

A certain individual had fun with the dabs, same place, same bait and similar rig, yet that Lucky Eddie had 11 dabs for no reply, saved the blushes and landed my one and only by stealing Eddie's gear :D

We did the same, dropped anchor off the North pier and had abit sport after spending the morning fishing wrecks 1-9miles out for only 3 cod and 2 ling..got loads of tiddlers close in and it was fun like you said, not knowing what species was comming in next.

Looks like we’ve all been at the same game.
For the first time in ages, I was out on my own on Saturday, with nothing but a small codling and scotchies to show for it. Desperate times called for desperate measures so I moved to a few hundred yards off Blyth beach with worm baits on light gear to catch a few dabs. It’s a civilised way of fishing, with the engine off, the kettle on and a steady stream of fish coming in. After half an hour the novelty wears thin, even as a one-off trip.

a think all them chickenz have eat the cod :D theres so many about .and them dabs are in good numbers just off souter area sandy bottom commiting suicide on big hooks :D
