Keep seeing reports about St Peters, Hebburn Marina etc. I thought as they were on the river you would need a rod licence, apart from being surprised at salt water fish being so far up the tyne (& wear). Is it because they are tidal stretches? Where does sea fishing end & river fishing begin?

You don't need a rod licence in tidal waters. Sea fishing ends up towards wylam. I know of lads still catching codling up to newburn bridge. When I was a. Kid I used to fish for flattys as far us as blaney row.

port of tyne own the rivr up to wylam bridge but you need a rod licence anywhere above newburn bridge, we catch small codling whiting and loads of flounder aswell as dace at the old stella north power station which is 1/2 mile down stream from newburn bridge around 14 river miles from the sea av had the odd sizeable codling as far as scotswood bridge and there was rumors of a bass caught up there a couple a summers ago outside B and Q
