Where to catch Bass?

I've never caught a bass and really want to do so (seeing as i've just paid £18 for a tiny portion in a restaurant with my lass) Where are the best places to catch them? I don't mind travelling and making a day of it. When are the best times in the year to catch them?

cheers

Just so you're aware mate , usually the areas where bass are caught usually aren't spoken about on here as these areas are usually netted off soon afterwards due to the cost of the fish and the relentless hunt for them commercially ,Wallsendo has quite rightly PM'd you ,nice one mate .

thats a proper shame that. Altho its not suprising. Cheers wallsendo fella its appreciated. thanks for letting me know steve, us novices are a bit naive. Hopefully i'll get a couple and put the pics up. altho i'll take the pics in a lead bunker.

Haha Andy ,hope you do well mate ,I've caught a few ,always on bait ( never targetted ) in a few local spots but nowhere consistantly.

I am also one of those who have never caught a Bass and would like to . The problem is that what I know about shore fishing would mean I would need a guided lesson rather than a description of where :)

Whilst fishing on a boat at hartlepool the skipper said he could take me to a bass mark but when we looked at the gear we had on board it consisted of 80 class rods with 120lb braid on and hardly the right gear to go after shool bass with. Its pencilled in for another day though.

I recently entered into a silly bargain where if I caught someone a 100lb plus skate they would help me to achieve a lifetime ambition of catching a 7lb plus Tench ( something I have been trying for for over thirty years) Oddly enough both promises were fulfilled on the first day of each challenge within 2 hours of starting fishing. I wonder if anyone would fancy taking up a similar deal with a bass?

Cheers
Dave.

100lb skate eh? Unfortunately for me I'd have nothing to offer in return.

I could always wash your car though.......

Good luck with whoever replies.

folks are protective about their 'bass' marks and rightly so

if you want a dead cert mark..... go to cornwall!

only place I've ever consistantly caught the buggers, never had one in the north east, and had a hand ful in scotland

I'd agree with Cornwall - clean, healthy shorelines (on the Atlantic side at least) - a veritable anglers paradise!!

With regards to bait and tactics for Bass (and I'm sure the experienced lads out there will contadict me if I'm wrong) I'd say that rigs/traces/baits etc are no different to that you'd need for any of the larger species...the skills and tactics have been written about in Sea Angler and every sea fishing book for years so just do the research and you'll be no different to anyone else.

Finding a good mark isn't necessarily rocket science either - look at what the theory says and then go searching your local beach marks at low tide, looking for pots and holes and sand banks etc that would provide areas for fish to gather or hunt about in.

Make notes, use a compass (thanks to the two Jims for that one;) ) and then go back and try it out...

ive a good bass spot in northeast always produces (9 outa 10 times lol) your looking in the wrong places with the holes and sandy beach's local knowlage is the key lol

fished the same spot for years always produces bass schoolies and the big ones

Gazza ,you must know the only 90 % successfull bass mark in the country mate ,hope you're not talking about the Featherbed as it's been 0 % for me and everyone I know who fishes there.:o

ffs

ffs

right fck it. im not gonna bother with the bass. i sacked the coarse fishin after years for being too fiddly. i can appreciate why people are quiet about bass fishin but not gonna get up me own ring about it. give me a cod on me pals boat any day.... or should i get me match rod back out and **** it all off??

if its that good why havent we seen any reports and pics from you ?

sounds like a good mark you have their gazza. What sort of numbers of bass have you taken there over the years, any biggies to talk of?

You sound like you have fished the mark quite a lot and had plenrty of success. Have you been able to draw any patterns for catching bass with regards to tide, time, bait.

The best I've managed is a few schoolies off a beach that sounds like hive;)

regards

stu
