Where to fish on Roker Pier

I've had a search about on the net about fishing the pier and from what I can make out its clean ground when fishing off the round end. If so how far out? Also what about along the pier, 1st steps (kelp?), 2nd steps etc, what is the ground like both sides.
Have you got your favourite spot like a lot of people have on Shields Pier?
Many thanks in advance.:)

hi mate.
a few good marks on roker pier.
fishing the round end you will not lose any gear, just cast straight out.
if you fish the flood it will pull you to the right so on a big tide only cast about 60 yards. On the ebb it will pull you to the left best to fish above the bunker which is on the left as you go on the round end.
before you go on the round end you can fish the bottom next to the bunker which is where the big wall is.same applies to the casting a big tide will pull you round the pier.
I would only fish upto about 50 yards before the end on the seaward side going any further down the pier and you will lose gear.

after a big sea the barrier is a good mark this is where the old gates were 9(half way along the pier)and if you look on the ground you will see where the old gates were. also a scaffold pole marks this mark, but only cast about 50 yards and use a rotten bottom you can fish further down from this mark as well

fishing the bay has its moments, first steps in the harbour and further down the pier towards the beach.

Cheers Danny Boy, some brilliant info there, just what I was looking for mate. Do the gates close at a set time or stay open all night (weather permitting)?

Shields opens from 08:00 until 16:00 at this time of year, weather permitting. Just saying as it may be some sort of guidance as to the times at Roker.

roker only closes when the weather is bad and the council will chase everyone off if this happens.

That's good info for me mate, I've never fished roker before so might give it a shot this year. Does it mean when it's open all night you may get some late night chav parties on it?
