Whitby this week

Been away all week in Whitby and report as promised. Plenty of good quality mackerel on the pier extension and also coalies and some good pollack on shads and jellyworms casting toward the end of the other pier. Pier was the usual Summer madness 'though and I just managed a couple of short sessions. Caught some decent Flounder and Dabs on Upgang beach and in the harbour when the weather turned bad yesterday.
Also caught a scorpion fish which was a new one for me!
Thanks for the advice on here before the visit.

Sounds like a canny week away for u mate. I drove through there a couple of weeks ago for work and it looked a really nice little seaside town, loads of boats in the harbour etc. Was reading an article on some fishing mark site recently and it said whitby was the cod capital of the north east coast during winter too.

The lads in the tackle shop said it was spot on for cod in the winter mate. The wife and I go every year in the summer and its a great place to visit, loads to do there and roundabout. Fishing was OK with plenty of bites but just small stuff really. Would like to go back in the winter and give the rock marks a go. Couldn't get on the main low water rock marks this week due to very small tides. Interestingly the best bait I found for Flounder was Bluey, it was clearly outfishing rag for me this week on the beach. Tackle shop is spot on too. Good lads but they get their fresh bait every friday and tend to run out over the weekend so get in quick!
