fished the middleton today had rag, mussle and squid for bait, sea was a bit choppy and well coloured [not a cod sea though] so fish targeted was whiting so used a two hook flapper with 1.0 hooks with no luck for almost two and a half hrs, was sat having a cuppa when i spotted a smoked herring fillet on the ground not 3 yards from me somebody had obviosly dicarded it as crap, i thought may as well give it ago whipped it on to my top hook as it was a bit mushy and put rag and mussle on the bottom hook within a minute my rod tip rattled ,typical whiting bite ,landed a 1lbs whiting onthe top hook and so it went cast after cast almost as soon as the bait hit the bottom another 1lbs whiting, tried putting the worm baits on the top hook and kipper on the bottom but no matter wich hook i put the kipper on that was the hook the whiting would attack, lost count after 20,kept 4 for the table let the rest go,so lads if you are going for whiting belive me the only bait you need is the humble kipper.
