Why do people chop rods ???

What makes me laugh about it all is when these chopped rods come up for sale and people expect to get the same money for them as a standard rod.
If ya wanna chop ya rod up feel free but when ya come to part with it in my eyes its only worth whatever the standard length section is valued at as the chopped section is scrap.

casting using rod, reel, line, sinker and baited hook or lure is the easiest and most efficient way we have invented up till now of putting a fish attractor reasonably close to where we think the fish may be,using this method of fishing is so much easier and more fun than say chucking a hand line out,for me accuracy in casting is far more important than distance if i can cast a baited rig 50 or 60 mtrs into a 5 mtr circle where i want it to go that gives me far more satisfaction than blasting it 150 or 200 mtrs into the distance, this is after all a SEA FISHING forum not about how far you can cast in a field.

right heres the reason why people cut rods...... my reason is I like the feel off a hacksaw blade goin thro the carbon and seeing if I can keep the cut straight................................. everybody else for some reason the rod is too long for wot they intend to use it for. it may be balance it may be to move the rod faster ie finish cast faster. well why not move the reel further up butt leaving lots below left hand,... simple reason if you cast and finish the cast correctly by pulling your left hand into your body you will likely break your ribs. some people also like to cast off reducers so they can get better purchase over the reel. in the case of the txl in my opinion cos ive tried it with a reducer, the butt is far too long with a reducer as it has a short tip, hence you cut the butt to get the desired length whilst casting off a reducer. whilst keeping the stiffer txl butt stiffness.
I recently purchased a Excalibur TT from a shop which was made by century to 14ft 4in same as ttr. told everyone the story yet 3 weeks later walk into a shop only to be asked why did you cut the butt on yr TT, so imo ya just cant win...... ps the TT is a much better rod at 14ft 4 infact wish id getting it made at 14ft as that's long enough, but agree with arran , half way between TT and c curve would be a much better rod.:)

Personal preferance lots of casters like txls and sus for instance but find them overly long or in txls case slightly unbalanced ,you could as i do move reel further up as peter thain and paul baker do but other caster prefer shortened rod lots of top casters chop rods andy green ,jay lee, martin watson for instance. Also the longer a rod the more powerfull a caster needs to be and a shorter rod can be cast far quicker

that's slanderous chip , andy green never chops a rod he got them specially made to 9 ft by terry on account of him been a dwarf lol

Some of what you would call a " chopped rod " may not be chopped at all especially if its a casters field rod , I have 2 M427's one is 13ft 10 ins , it hasnt been chopped ,Terry C made me a shorter butt when i ordered it as I find 14ft 4 ins to long for me to turn over comfortably . I dare say if i ever sold it someone would jump to the same conclusion as happened to that fine chap Stephie1.
As an after thought what would class my other M427 as ? Is it worth less because it isnt standard length , this one is 15ft I use it for backcasting again the butt hasnt been tampered with just made longer to order .

Thanks stephie ,once again youve made me smile and chuckle at one of your posts and ive also learnt something at the same time ,doesnt happen that often on forrums in truth i always find your posts both humorous and informative in equal measure

wot will say lads is generally theres nothing wrong with a chopped rod its just peoples preferences for the casting or fishing they do. if you buy one that's been cut , take the butt cap off and make sure the carbon aint split up the inside..... also youse are generally right that buy cutting inches off a butt you are generally devaluing the rod although some rods are made shorter on request by the manufacturer and often feel better at the shorter length. and chip I do try to be honest and humerous at the same time lol..... thanks mate:):)
now anyone wanna buy a m427 su that's now only a M420 su :red::red::red::red:

Hahaha. Quick question of a rod has 6 inches off the butt does that mean you shouldn't use a reducer as the butt has a few inches of thicker carbon to support the reducer?

most zziplex have 8 t0o 10 inches slight reinforcement , new centurys supposed to have more but cant feel any increase in dia so sceptical. are you talking reducer for a reel to go on or a extension to help reeling in . yes to both both but some casters put coaster on base of butt if casting off reducer... I never did and never split a butt

Thanks mate yea they are reinforced further up as the reel seats only move so far down and stop about 10 inches from the bottom

Sorry mate but that's bull turd.. I've used various century's and never had any like that.. Infact my current TTR reel seat is about 6" off the bottom.. When I had a WR300 I used reelseat anywhere from litterally as low as it would go sat againt the butt cap to about 9" up..

You try and buy a Fuji reel seat and fit it the butt is thicker at the bottom fact I don't mean the one that comes with a century rod from new a replacement.
