Why is my new line falling to bits

Put some new rovex line on my rod last night and off I went down to crimdon. After my first cast the line started to shred and little balls of fluff started to gather in my eyes and on my reel. Then my line started to snap over nothing, it happened three times. Any ideas ????

Hello,
You may well have a cracked insert on one of your rod rings, that's what I would check first. More often than not it's the tip ring.
The small hairline cracks can shred your line are very hard to see. Check each ring with your finger nail for a crack or pull some nylon through off a pair of tights, you will then feel the faulty ring.

I hope this helps,

Regards Ian

i will hazard a guess that it will be a crack in your tip ring mate. if not one of the intermediates. give them a check :)

Cracked rings with braid is fustrating when you haven't noticed slices it to bits or you strike and it feels weightless as it just cuts it lol :) I speak from experience! a few Years ago :)

Thanks lads
The tip ring is very rough but i can't see no cracks, all the other rings are fine.
I will need to get my tip renewed, anyone know who can do it in the Hartlepool area....?

just heat the old tip ring with a lighter for a few seconds then pull it off with some pliers as it will be hot then get some stick glue melt it on the tip and push the new tip ring on line it up jobs a guden

if you aint confident in doing it ure self take it to cairnsys (nets) near newburn bridge. one of the lads will sell u the tip ring if they have the right size and probably fit it for ya for free.

Griff its a doddle to do it yourself.
you tube- "Eye Whippings" and there are a few decent vids which are easy to follow mate.
Best of luck.;)
