thinking of buying a wilson flyer 19ft has anyone got one what the like at sea for fishing on or any one recommend any thing else

There's one recently turned up in Royal Quays just to the left of the entrance and it seems a very solid well made boat. It's a sort of orange colour and while it was made in the 1990s it doesn't look dated Vs the more modern Seahogs etc. I've only viewed it coming & going from Royal Quays but it looks very seaworthy. Furthermore, the two lads who own it are mad keen to get amongst the fish and have (perhaps foolishly) ventured when no one else in the marina has left their moorings.

When I was looking for a boat a guy took me out on a 23 foot Wilson flyer on a day when the sea was a bit lumpy. As Keith said they are a solid boat but my overriding memory was the amount of slamming from the hull on every wave crest.
I came off the boat and my knees were aching and that was only after about 30 mins on the open sea. I don't know if it makes a difference but the boat I was on was powered by a 100hp outboard.

I had a pilot 520, that's the 17ft version of the same boat as a Wilson flyer. It was very stable, especially on a following sea as it would hold it's line perfectly.
In hindsight, I think they would benefit with a few more inches of freeboard even though they're best fitted with safety rail grab handles.

I went to the late Brian Wilson's house great guy, as I was thinking about buying one, his workshop was behind his bungalow we went in and he showed me a section he had just cut out of the hull (for a water intake I believe because there was a inboard going in) it was very thick was well impressed strength wise but looking at the shape of the hull you would have to throttle back in a moderate sea but thats the trade off for stability when I say ease off I think because of it weight and length it would still push on at about 12/15 knts which lets face it thats ok for the north sea then if your engine is big enough theres a bit extra for a flat day, for what they cost well worth it for fishing, but I went a bit bigger.
