When does the season start?

In a perverse kind of way I've missed sitting on me box in the cold and damp on a dark night with the waves crashing towards me...even though I've caught more Cod this year from the Boat than I'll prob ever catch in a lifetime from the shore :D

i prefer to start getting ready for late october time you will surely start to feel the winter aproaching but with the climate change ya never know we might be sunbathing by that time

MISSING IT!!!! you should have been out last Wednesday mate, was just like winter fishing but without the fish,,, although i dont catch any so yeah it was just like winter fishing lol

beat you's all to it lol

The season seems to get earlier and earlier. I have found that you can get a lot of smaller fish in september if conditions are right.

The season also seems a lot shorter than it used to be and just about dried up by the end of january.

Im sure the fish would be there into feb and march if they hadn't been swept up by all the ****ing gill netters.

I normally start around the beginning of October and by the time the season is in full flow (November onwards), I'm confident in my casting during darkness and have familiarized myself with how marks I fish, have changed during the summer. Can't wait for this season, just hope the cod are playing too.

By the way Tony, our mars bar match is looming!!;)

Deffo Sean ;)

...also thinking of doing another Friendly Match over this side again - heaviest fish this time...:)

...but should mebbes think of one on the south side as well ;)

gets peeps ready for the N v S which is South side and the Winter Comp which is North (I think) :)

Well this will be my first proper winter of Cod fishing since I only started fishing half way through last winter. I was thinking of starting in late September/early October for the Cod.

You organize a North Friendly and I'll do The South???

Gav, if you fancy a trip to Horden let me know, I'll soon be down on a regular basis (Mrs permitting) and I'll show you a couple of my preferred marks.

start

start

get cracking first good sea in sept. newbiggen open held this month usually and they have lots cod weighed in. crab essential as bait. sept to xmas brill jan feb not so hot. another late run end feb to end march.

Can't wait in fairness...last year was all about sussing it out and buying the kit (lots and lots of kit :o:D)

This year is going to be about fishing one or 2 venues and getting to know them really well

And I've got a stash of Crab this year too - so I won't be paying £1+ for Crab when I'm desperado :p

The cod are already there, This week and last week some of the northumberland beaches have been producing smallish fresh run 2-3lb'ers to some of my mates wetting a line, they have been averaging two per session each, there have been more when the sea has been running but flat calm has also produced but crab and darkness are required.

Graham.
