Anyone tried one of these? £45 on Ebay. The sensor can be tied to your line and cast out then you can see if theres any fish about. It could save a few blanks :) Here's the ebay link Wireless Fish Finder Sonar, Fresh-Salt Water, Brand New | eBay

I be interested to know how well they work, if any one gets one.
I nearly bought a Hummingbird one from ebay for a visit to Loch Long, but was outbid in the auction in the last 5 secs... I was devastated(well I might be exaggerating, probably just a bit disappointed really :p ).
Mind you, I probably only would have used it once or twice then stuck it in a drawer somewhere :D

£35 - £45 for the hummingbird sensor. It floats on the surface so minimum chance of getting snagged. Crack off and your fooked.
Also, battery is sealed in, so when thats gone, you gotta get a new sensor unless you dismantle it and try changing it yourself

Its cheating really LOL, its the not knowing what is out there what makes the fishing fun.
I think these little gadgets are more for still water fishing, lakes and the like.

one problem that im finding with this fish finder is how can you see the screen when its floating out at sea or does it transmit the image via a wireless connection to a screen that is in your hand. just something id like to know

It's wireless... the bit on the right of the pic attaches to your line and you cast it out, then retreive slowly while it updates the image of the bottom of the sea/river/lake on the display on the handheld bit

well i can defo see it working on still waters as i dont think it will have the processing speeds at £45 to capture a decent image on the sea as its bobbing up and down

The review below is from Amazon who are doing these for £47.99. I haven't found a replacement sensor online but ones for other makes are around £17 to £20.

This review is from: Portable Wireless Fish Finder with Life long sensor. Supplied with aerial. New improved range of 70 - 90 Metres (Misc.)

to be fair i bought this on a whim
I had a far more expensive model until last year
i bought this thinking that if this one got broken or stolen it was not be to costly to replace
I was blown away with the quality of the system
it is on par if not better than my 2 year old fishfinder
an excellent product
I was a little put off with the colour but you can't miss it so you won't leave it behind

i have tried them before on carp lakes and they are total rubbish only thing they are good for is telling the depth and showing gulleys etc it would say there was fish in a puddle in the middle of the road lol

p.s even the hummigbird fish finders for the boats are total garbage people buy them thinking they are cheap etc but they arenteven worth turning on

i would'nt bother lads, a fish finder picks up anything that moves so kelp moving around in the tide shows up as fish, even weed floating past under the surface. i know this from fishing in yaks.
better idea is a G.P.S & on the big tides mark the holes 2 help u find them when the tides r high ect.

even if your ebay bought "fishfinder" actually spots a fish it doesnt mean that your ebay bought "bait" will get them to bite. :D:D:eek::rolleyes:

Hello,
Most fishing tackle is designed to catch the angler not the fish and this is a perfect example.

Spent the time and effort in learning the marks, taking note of anglers that are successful (have a look along your stretch when the club anglers are having a match, there is so much to learn without even fishing), and try to get the best quality bait you can get.

Check your marks on different size tides and conditions and look for holes and features, for example some marks will have little or no water on a big ebb but the same mark will be perfect on a smaller tide, eventually the bigger picture will become clear.

The frustrating thing is that the more proficient that you become the more you realise how little you know.

Regards Ian

I have this Humming bird fishfinder and use it all the time when i go to a new venue, whether in the sea or fresh.

It works a treat for finding features and depths and it does show up fish.
I have mapped a lot of the bed of the lower Wear estuary with it and now have a good idea where the ledges and such are for when i fish matches.
Knowing this has won me a few bob over the last couple of years,so the fishfinder has paid for itself.....

whats to say that by the time you reel in and bait up (providing your using one rod) al the fish have buggered off !

Be interesting to see if it works or not, but i'dsay you needto bein the water with it to confirm if it's 100%, could just get lucky :)
