Wor Lass - Sunday 25th

Like many people, today was the day that we opened this year’s boat fishing account. After winter hibernation the engine and electronics were given a thorough work-out plotting a way through the fog. Everything worked and we set off out between the piers, noisy with the fog horn blastin; some lads were braving it to fish there.
The plan to head out to the three mile wrecks and get through the fog worked as it was a bit clearer and brighter there. Still the foghorn sounded and one or two hidden ships rumbled past. No fish came from the first half dozen wrecks and we ended up on a half mile drift across hard ground six miles out.

Another change of tactics saw us move back inshore as the fog thinned further. We spotted a familiar boat in the distance and were soon sharing a productive drift with Canman.

Another, and another...

Steve pulled out the first, second and third fish and was just about to be pushed in to join them when I hooked one.

Black muppets baited with mackerel did the trick, with scotchies preferring worm baits.

Fishing went quiet as the tide changes so we moved well inshore of StMary’s can to pick up a single coddling from another long drift. As the wind picked up mid afternoon and we called it a day with a final score of half a dozen coddling to about 4lb and a handful more fish thrown back. A good start to the season and it's still very early.
