WOW - They're back.....might interest Norman

Aye..I'm not over keen, but I try anyway...and if all else fails I've got enough books to keep me going for now...

Haven't bought a book for ages...might have to have a browse in Windows Music sometime very soon

Hahaha - aye Marc.....I like the book retainer....:D

Much better Led Zep tracks to test a new guitar on......certainly as far as intonation goes......what about Bron Yr Aur Stomp?

YouTube - Led Zeppelin - Earl's Court (1975) - "Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp"

.....never hear that coming out of Windows do ya........again - this is in a dropped tuning - can you guess which......lol - guranteed to find any failings in guitar set up, but as I say, you never hear a new guitar being given a work out with it ???

20lb Boat Rod and 55lb Braid...those books are going nowhere ;):D

Just watching that clip reminds me of how cr*p music is these days...very few bands have come about in the noughties that float my boat at the moment

Hmmmm - I know what you mean, Tony.....but.....

Have you tried the White Stripes or the Racontuers?......Jack White may be musics' salvation in the "naughties".......lol :p............."salvation" may be a bit strong - lol.....but he is rather good and does have those old fashioned thing called "talent" and "ability"

Lol Ell......"many a good tune played on a one string banjo".....or something like that.............anyway - who says what's "good" and what's "rubbish".......it's just "different"..............lol - Simon Cowell might disagree about that.....hahahahaha :p

A lot of that's gobble-de-gook to me but you've inspired me to put The Eagles on quietly

Remember down in Cornwall on my birthday about 8 years ago my daughter saw a lad playing accoustic in a bar while we were having a meal. "Driftwood" by Travis, he was an Irish lad and played it lovely with a good voice. She was gob smacked that the music out of the speakers was 'real'.

Might pick up the step-daughters accoustic which is gathering dust and have a bash

Failing that I'll have a go at the one string banjo :o

just watched a thing on the telly i sky+ from a while back and it had some geezer playing his guitar ,where they have a bit of hose attached and they make a differant sound while singing (might have been peter frampton) - like a warbling sound ,but you can understand the lyrics ,and still here the cords(think thats what they call them) coming through

The question is ,yes it sounds cool and many have done it ,but what the hell is it called ,or does it not have a name ,just people do it ,cos they can ??

and how do you or where do you attach the pipe to the guitar - never played one ,but still curious :):)

It`s called a "Voicebox" bri and plays the output up through the tube into the mouth where the muscisian then mouths the sounds through the PA Microphone ....... basically a little speaker at the bottom end of the tube pushing the guitar up, switchable by pedal.

"voicebox", "talkbox", "helibox"......lots of names for them, Bri.....depends on the make...lol.

Couple of other classic examples of its' use......

Joe Walsh: "Rocky Mountain Way".....

Pink Floyd: "Keep Talking"....

"......the muscisian then mouths the sounds through the PA ....."

Not really as simple as it sounds......the "vocal" has got to match the guitar note perfectly.......a thing called "scat" - a device often used in jazz (Cleo Lane is a prime example of how vocal notes can match instrument notes. Another good example of this art is Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd - David Gilmours' vocal "scat" perfectly replicates the notes on the guitar solos:

Re the u-tube quote on the Joe Walsh clip........Lol......I've been looking out for a solid body Rickenbacker for years - and here's JW playin' one - I want it - I want it....hahahaha - not the Les Paul used for the "voicebox" section. Mind you - if anybody's got an old original Les Paul Junior (tabacco sunburst) lying around, that they wanna get rid of.......bagsy 1st dibs :o)

OK - I know it's a fishin' forum.....but WTF....this IS the "chat " area innit ??

Lol Tony.......which PF link.....they're both "mint";)

Hows the 12 string practice coming along, then ?

Wish You Were Here - I can ish play it myself - albeit a somewhat ham fisted way but I still try :D

12 string is going OK...haven't quite tuned it properly...insofar that both sets of strings are currently at the same pitch

"Wish You Were Here".......Hmmmm - know what you mean - it's pretty simple to play, really - it's just the 1st section of that effing "scat" bit that I crumple on......e very time :confused:
