Wreck fishing

Back in the NL's (where I'm from) it is possible to pay a certain fee (between 35 and 50 euro's, say 25-40 Pounds) and go with a fishing boat on a trip for cod and other species. Is this something which can also be done in Newcastle or anywhere near, I'd like to fish this side of the sea a few times as I'm over for some work at the University.

Hi Flying Dutchman and welcome to NESA. There are quite a few charter boats that will take you out for a days fishing from all of our local ports. welcome to nesa mate. in june i went out on the sarah jfk from royal quays which cost £35 for all day. it was my first time out and i'd recommend the sarah jfk to anyone, alan the skipper was quite helpful, he kept me right as i didn't have a clue what i was doing. you'll be lucky to get out this time of year though due to the sea's usually being too rough to get out

I would agree with Tony, I havn't been on JFK myself but the reports that keep coming in about Alan Skinner are always good. I don't do much boat fishing myself but have had a couple of trips out on Mistress (also from the Tyne) and we had a couple of good trips with him too.

not the best time of year, Alan skinner (Sarah JFK) does go out all year round but catches won't be as good as in the summer months (easter onwards)

Ah, that sounds good (although catches being down sounds less good). Thanks for all the helpfull replies! I'll be in untill just after New Year's so I will just try and pick a nice weekend to go out. Rough seas I already experienced on the ferry in, and that's a big one... I can only imagine what that would do to a small fishing boat :S
