Bit of advice lads if you can,
I'm planning to get my son a new multiplier as part of his christmas presents, he's 12yrs old.
It needs to be 6500 size, level wind essential, mag brakes would be nice,( is there a mag reel with a level wind?)
Any suggestions???

Great suggestions!
I will check out the okuma magnatex 20 rocketman.
Eddie, the 7000 spool will be too high for his thumb mate,
I didnt know the mag elete came with a level wind either! :o
I love this site:)

A 6500 is next to useless for most fishing in the north east. A 525 mag or saltist type reel would serve him better. A young lad soon grows up. I was fishing with 7000s when I was a kid

Yeah, gotta to agree with you there Alan.....in that statement the 65 is useless so then the 7ht and and akios is the same.

I would bet above reels have hauled more cod in from the north east beaches than any other reels...so there.lol.

I agree 7000 size reels are a better all rounder up here, but I only take him on clean venues. So 65 size is fine!
I learnt to cast with a sea streak and solid glass 12ft rod wilh a full set of ceramics!:eek :
I spent more time picking birdys out! :D

As already said the Magnitex would be good for him and the Tf Gear Force8 65CSM may be worth a look too (endorsed by alan yates) which also has mag brakes and level wind and cost around £100

My son has got a pair of Abu 6500's and they suit him fine hes had them for a while and wouldnt swap them. They are ideal for a first multiplier reel.I have a Penn 515 mag but still have a 6000 as my back up and they will handle most of the fish you are likely to catch!

Rob Well's has a 6500 for sale with a level wind, not sure which model it is but I nearly bought it yesterday but ended up buying a different 6500 from him. It's never had a line on it, PM me if your interested and I'll inbox you his details.

6500's no good around here mate apparently

6500 size reels are good in a few limited places. Mine only ever get used when I'm away for smoothies or match fishing on clean beaches travelling away. 525 mag tends to be the go to reel

Phew, cheers mate, pulled them out of the trash bin just in time:D

abu 6500 are brilliant reels for clean beaches and shingle if used right up north most anglers dont use there rods to pump and wind we use our reels for ease and comfort when a fish is hooked your reel is only for winding your loose line in i have seen some double figure fish caught using 6500 over ground were i thought i needed my penn any reel will pull massive fish in if ya use ya rod the likes of the penns and faster retreiving reels are for when you need to retreive your loose line in fast hence the retreive ratio doesnt say fish weight just speed of retreive you look on you tube there using them smoothies and there is one video of a lad fishing catching a huge bull huss
