With having a few choices of location scrapped because of the big sea I decided to go to South Shields pier and set up at brigade hut for safety and plenty light around that mark. Arrived at 1am to see a huge roll on coming down the harbour and smashing onto the little haven beach! Good choice of location I thought as more or else everywhere bar the river will b unfishable! Setup and nothin but a couple of small knocks resulting into nothing. Got to about 3 oclock started putting on big lug baits as was thinking it will b my last couple of casts. Few mins later a gentle tap tap on rod, thought il leave it and let it develop, and that's what it did, struck in thinking I'm in! Not realising how big the fish was until it come close and my rod was bent right over! Thought to myself I'm never gona get this up as sides of pier was very slippy! Fortunately for me there was a very nice bloke walking past and offered to go get it for me! That resulted in a nice cod of 8lb 2oz
over the moon was an understatement my pb shore caught fish! Shortly after I was getting another tap tap lol that resulted in a codling 4lb7oz
baits used were lug squid and mussel but both fish fell to straight lug packed in at 5oclock a very happy man.
