i was just wondering if any of you lads have had any encounters with porbeagles or owt the likes,
only, with sighting`s every year on the boats, who are about 3 foot away (with gunnels), was thinking you lot would be snout level....! just wondering like....
that`s why a think you lot are nuts.........!

Ive fancied getting a yak for some time now but you have just put me off the idea forever:eek: cheers.
I hadn't thought of coming across a shark but now you mention it there is a few get reported every year. I would probably set some sort of paddle record on the way back in while crying my eyes out lol

PS the shark would probably keep it's distance from the smell that would be coming from my yak after seeing it

I think they are nuts for going out to sea in a kayak as well, but sharks would be the least of my worries, more chance of being boarded by Somali pirates than a shark attack in the north sea off blyth:rolleyes:

none of the lads who use yak`s have commented on it, may be, they don`t wan`t to think about that situation either.
did`nt mean any offence lads, was just interested.....!

lol, seen plenty of somali pirates in my time ' not off Blyth yet' but no porgy's but we had a few in the early 80's in the nets when I worked on the boats as they were only caught about 10 miles out ...
To be honest it wouldn't bother me as such as I think they would keep their distance as they see some nutter on a yak miles out at sea.
I'll let you know if I ever come across one :)

What I want to know is when you get a fast on a yak how do you break it free I mean I struggle sonetimes on a 16ft boat do you just snip the line

Like most of the lads I also use braid what I always do is I just paddle back on myself and yank it from the other direction and that normally gets me free and I've hardly lost any gear that way but I always use a rotton link with all mt gear anyway

PMSL i can imagine it a benny hill fast mode :D

I think if you would ask the questions to the guys who go out Kayak fishing in False Bay, Cape Town, you had a point. They encounter Great Whites, Killer Whale etc

But a Porbeagle would not raise my pulse at all. I would try to catch it !!

i got cracking on to a guy when i was fishing st abbs head a couple of months back,i was on a bloody big spikey rock,he was bobbing up and down on a kayak,we were basically fishing the same area and i thought to myself this fellers nuts:obut on reflection i was the knacker on a spikey rock acting like a mountain goat, with a serious climb back up,i think he had the better deal, but i doubt id have the minerals to try it:D:D

i was on my yak fishing off the manholes 3 year ago and i was reeling a 12 pound haddock in and a 28 foot great white came and stole it,i killed it with my paddle then lied back and lit a gigar up it was a great feeling, pics to follow;):Datb plum
