I'm going to start the year end messages of goodwill by taking a look back at mine from a fishing perspective...
Like a number of lads on here I only started back into the Angling game this year - around about May/June time for me. I needed some insight as to what to do, where to go etc so I turned to the 'net for sources of local info..
Eventually I came across NESA, signed up, asked a million and one questions and the rest as they say is history

First fish this year...
1lb+ Plaice from North Sheilds Fish Quay mini beach - was chuffed to bits as it was the first fish I'd caught in over 10 years
Was so chuffed I went back the next night and caught another flattie...
1lb+ Flounder from the same spot
This mark continued to be my fave place for a while, I even had to share it with some unusual company...

Strangely enough it was that night I first met KeithB and subsequently Willywetegg - somewhat perturbed by the sheep I took up their offer of joining them on Blyth Pier for a spot of macky bashing
I've still got the length of "scooby" tubing Jim gave me that night and have made quite a few rigs using it
Inspired by the mackerel I even took two of my novice mates onto Blyth Pier to show 'em the ropes...
Dave on the left was an instant convert and for the rest of the summer I was pestered every other day to head down to the Pier

LIke i said earlier there were a number of lads who'd just started up again and it was around about early summer that I first met Greggthe1 and then later Philitofish - all of us keen to expand our knowledge and experience so we organised a couple of trips out and about. I remember our trip to Beadnell to target Wrasse - Phill was the only one to catch that night...
Not being competitive or anything I got up at the crack of dawn the next day and went out to catch my own
...
Mid summer was also the time that I was afforded my first boat trip

Norman sent me a PM asking if I'd be interested in joining him and Sixfootsteve on the Slinky Kate one weekend - wasn't going to say no was I?
That trip was the best fishing day of this year by far - Cod, Ling, Coalies, Scotchies
and about 32 mackerel
Norman - "What's your biggest Cod Tony?"
TGW - "erm:red:...never caught one :red:"
Well...
6lb Cod - still my best fish this year
Residing memory of those early starts...

and also the notorious pace at which Norman gets to the marks...

Still loads of fishing to be done from boat and shore for the remainder of the summer - met up with other NESA members and even fished alongside them at various spots around the N/E
Then the colder months arrive and peoples attentions turn to Cod

using all the practice and knowledge I had acquired I set my sights on my first shore cod/codling...
Whitley Beach was the venue...
2lb+ Codling

A week later fishing another forums comp'...
another 2lb+ Codling....I have yet to catch another this season, but there is LOOOAADS of time yet
....and I'm still learning, I'm no expert that's for sure but I've come along way in such a short time thanks to the help and advice of people from this site
You could look at this post as a trifle self indulgent but what I mean to point out is that through this forum you can ,not only, gain so much in terms of knowledge and info' but you can also get out there and meet people, make new mates, learn new things - which is exactly what NESA has enabled me to do in the 7 months since I joined up
Have a Great New Year Everybody and I hope that 2008 is just as productive and that the fishing just gets better
Cheers
Tony
