42lb 7oz cod

You answered yourself in your own post....his cod may of been shorter, CHRIS'S cod the one that i have talked about in the last two posts and helped but struggled to boat was
4 1/2 foot long.

Not many 20lb+ fish around our waters our days and a one twice that is a fish that you will only see maybe every year or two.

Great that you got your rod sorted, it maybe worth sending them a picture of you landing the fish using their gear, you never know the free gear may keep comming if they can use your photo as a sales pitch for the tackle etc :)

It certainly wouldn't be good news or advertising that a large fish had snapped a sonik rod so I take it they are treating the situation before it goes wrong :)

having said that of course I must boost the name of Sonik, my 2 latest and always used rods are the sonik sk4 12-20lb boat rods. I find them excellent (and havn't managed to snap one yet :) )

green eyed monsters

this thread is what is wrong with some "members" on NESA, the lad had photo's, and a video, plus two witnesses, the fish was weighed twice, and the weight given as 42lb 7oz , by saying otherwise you are calling the lad's bare faced liars, but you just haven't got the balls to say it outright.

"nice fish in these waters", "nice fish close in" "full of worms would have put it back"-load of sarcastic crap, (although returning it is a noble thought, how many would actually do it?) it's nice fish from any sea, and any depth of water, and he didn't have to travel to Norway to catch it, saving time & money....more kudos to him i say

just accept that the lad caught a cracking fish and accept the weight given rather than making yourselves look like jealous, green eyed , whining "anglers"

cracking fish mate, cracking report cracking video & photos, hijacked by doubter's (well that's 1 word for them!)

Well said

Cracking fish for these waters.

But in my opinion from the video it dosen't look 42lb.
Quite easily lifted into the boat once it had stopped twisting, then held for a long time with one arm.
Personally i think the scales might be out.

I caught a 42lb cod earlier this year and thought it looked quite abit bigger than that one.

Cheers Plum. I guess your another doubter aswell.;)

As for us being doubters, it's the first time i've questioned the weight of a fish on here.
Only questioned because to ME its a good 10lb shy of 42lb.
I seen alot of big fish in Norway and that just doesn't look 42lb.
It seems the doubters are lads that have actually seen big fish.
Just compare the size of the fish to the photos in the 'Loppa report'.
If the 'Newbiggin fish' is 42lb, then them 'Loppa' ones must be 50-60lb.

When they seen a lad and his 2 sons on the day, how come they said it was only 31.5lb. (which is a cracking fish anyhow)

Anyway, Cracking fish whatever the weight.

you have to laugh at some people who doubt the size of the fish...if it was 31.5lb why come on here and say it was 42.7lb??? 31.5lb is still one hell of a cracking fish to catch around here so why would the lad want to add extra lb's for.
Whats he going to gain from it???

Once again cracking fish mate.

no doubt its a great fish but a fish that size should be thrown back to live on as a true monster cod not kept there should be laws in place to preserve the big fish 2 in my opinion

Hi All,
Many thanks for all your comments,
I kind of wish i had not posted a catch report and will not in the future!
As for the posts regarding returning the fish, Rubbish is the same said for all other big fish including Ling, Worms not a one
What have i to gain in lying? I did not catch the fish, on the boat the scales were bouncing from 30 to 40 so after getting home we tried again with two sets and they read 42/7, 42/10
The Video, this was the first time it was used on the boat, the camera is mounted to high and pointing down to get the deck in shot, my son in the red with the sore thumb is 6ft looks 5 to me,
Tell me why should i post a weight with pics & video to prove me to be lying, IM NOT A GLORY HUNTER!!!!!!
Myself a hobby fisherman only trying to help others on where fish have been caught,
So lighten up, IT IS WHAT IT IS
Regards,
John

Don't let a few put you off posting. It was a great report and pics which 99% of members loved reading. Ignore the few pedantic, jealous doubters. What posseses them to put up a post doubting you is beyond me. Some people just can't help themselves, they seem to get some twisted pleasure in trying to spoil someone's fantastic day out. It's them that look foolish, so just ignore them. If you stopped posting they would take it as a victory, so keep posting and "shove it up right em"

Stuff em mate, you know what size the fish is , that's all that matters, it must have been caught before I saw Your boat because I noticed the smile on Bennys face and he was doing his best to pace up and down a 16 ft boat , I had the feeling he wanted to tell me something by his body language , never in my wildest dreams would I have expected it to be about a cod that size though :D
It's a once in a lifetime fish, ignore the doubters and enjoy the moment , they come all too infrequently.

Just a point John, in all the excitement of the big fish catching there's been little mention of the young un and the hook in the finger ... :) poor soul, there must be a story in it, was that him snipping the hook and pulling through in the video? :) :) :) hope he's recovering ok
