IMO no way that's 42lb.

Great fish though.

If you catch a fish like that you would get it weighed officially IMO.

Here we go again with the jealous doubters!!

I'm really interested mate as to why you would post a message like this?

What does it achieve?

If you honestly believe it's not 42lbs, why not pm the guy? Why publicly post this?

I'm afraid it just makes you look like a pedantic, jealous angler who can't cope with being out fished!

Oh and one last question............Were you there??

Opinions are one thing, but his "opinion" looks like a person that calls the original poster a liar. That's not on in my book mate. Forum or no forum.

He also said the fish should have been weighted at a local tackle shop for verification...do you agree ?

We also have the best local fishing news people in the northeast on this site also they would have confirmed this.

A 42lb cod caught in British waters is very rare fish indeed do you agree ?.

A local tackle shop is 5mins away from Newbiggin(,more than one shop)I'm sure they also would be pleased for the publicity as well, if this had happened there would be no doubters.
or green eye monsters.
or jealous fisherman.
and no arguments as to "it is 42lb or no it's not"
And no people using language as liar !!.

im not sure the weight of the fish ,but im 100% over the moon to see such a fish of whatever size it iz ,we shudnt be moaning about and arguing about ,we shud be proud ;)

No I do not agree! He weighed it at home, it's his fish, why should he get it verified just to satisfy the likes of you? He said it was 42lbs, that's good enough for me.

Anyway, that's my last word on the subject, I shouldn't have got drawn into replying to you, a waste of time and effort.

A day out to remember. In the words of Henry Gillby, WHAT A STONKER:o
I remember Ken Robinsons 40lber, and that was a pig of a fish. Great accomplishment mate, just keep re-living the moment.

...because IMO I don't think its 42lb. It's my opinion which I clearly stated.

...and If anyone said any different they would be called jealous and burnt alive!

i'd rather read the report, see the photo & watch a video of a very large cod being caught, than wade through the doubting drivel you lot are spouting, bit sad really when a simple "well done" would have sufficed.....

If you read my first post it says great fish.

Personally, I'd rather be out catching fish rather than reading reports.

I have just watched the video of this after a few people had told me to look at it.I had to view it on you-tube as it doesn't seem to be here any longer and seriously, haway its never 42lb.probably only half that and a lovely fish yes, especially from inshore rough ground but how anybody who fishes themselves can call anybody for "doubting" is crazy.
