7ht mag and st

I have used my 7ht mag for about 4 years without trouble, mainly on Piers, & have pulled Fish in to 7lb without any clutch slip. Obviously the bigger fish need to be pumped & then hand balled. Its my favourite Reel. Just had the bearings replaced as they got a bit noisy & its back to Silky smooth.
Put TG Ceramics in & took Blackdogs advice & oiled them, also put in a Pinion Support cos everyone says they need them lol.

If a rod meant to bring the fish in, then why argue which reel is best ? Does that mean you can put any reel on a rod and pull a fish in ? If it was that easy there wouldn't be the choice of reels available, people owning a dozen reels for different applications etc. I agree with Karl m, great chucking reels over clean ground but there are better reels with more cranking power. I've used them in the tyne and struggled with 2 and half/3lb fish in a bit of tide.

There is better for cranking power but on a beach mark do you need cranking power? As there is no need for fast retrieve or bullying fish.

If the drag is slipping with such a small fish on, it's more than likely that the drag-washers need cleaning - a bit of stray oil getting in there can cause slippage. Like I said before, replacing the washers with Carbontex ones improves the drag no end.
