just out of curiosity anyone know what the derelict buildings were, they remind me of kilns of some sort.

Hello,
They are old kilns at Marsden near to Souter lighthouse.

Just North of Souter lighthouse is where Marsden village used to be, it housed workers from the lime kilns and mine. It's all gone now and the leas are owned by the National Trust. There is little left to indicate that a village once stood there but you can still see brickwork on the cliffs and the popular fishing mark "North Row Ends" gets it's name because the end house of the "North Row" was near there.

The stretch of coast from Shields to Roker is a fantastic stretch in my opinion and very underated. I love it, it has a fantastic history too.

Regards Ian
