certainly no records of a smelt being caught round here

heres a report on smelt on the following adress. It says smelt were plentiful in the Tyne, Wear and Tees at one time and were delicious. It goes on to say that it has not caught one in its sampling nets since the 1980's and believes them now to be extinct in these rivers!!

I caught a small one of 4 ounces today at Hebburn, was about 26 cm if I remember correctly. They are back alright.
