Is it safe to add wax to molten lead?
Considering 1 vent that joins the pouring spout.
Cheers!

thats an amazing mould, well done ,dont worry about the finish they dull off after a couple of drops anyway youl still get the fish,i painted mine black and yellow and still hammered them no liesatb plum
lol aye the average life of a pirk is about 15mins so i dont suppose the surface finish needs to be calibrated ....

lots of vents keith 5mm wide X 0.1mm deep one side only .... too small for lead perfect for air

You dont use pirks anyway so dont worry about the finish i`m sure it will pass the skippers inspection![]()

Wow! see what you mean Sean, it doesn't last long though and didn't make any noticeable difference to the pirks.
.
Yeah a sort of flux effect, but with a sugar cube size piece added the effect only lasted long enough to pour two pirks and I had about 20lb of molten lead in the pan.

Tried opening up the joint with 0.006" shims and that made no difference either
Now thinking a bigger pouring hole might help.
If that fails I'm just gonna call it the fish scale effect
There are parts of the pirks that have a mirror like finish similar to that of the mould, they would be something to behold if they were like that all over.
