Access to the Target and Ryhope Dene

Just a little bit of info if anyone is planning on fishing between the target and Ryhope dene- the access at each point is severely limited. The target is the worst as the mud bank that was left has now been eroded back and its a drop of about 6-7ft at the bottom, getting back up is even worse because any ledge that you could get a foot on is weak sandstone and just gives way.

As for ryhope dene the platform has now gone and only the pipe remains with a few bits of concrete around it, you can get up and down but its a bit of a task- especially if you are like me and have the balance of a drunk 1 legged hippo :p

Its Ryhope village where the ramp and pipe are mate, the Dene is a mile south from there.
The steps at the Toll bar have been in a bad state for years now,the council wants to remove them all together.
Theres a sign at the south end of Hendon prom that says "The next means of eggress from the beach is Ryhope Dene".This is 2 miles away.
So anyone walking or fishing along that way,be carefull not to get trapped on the beach when the tide floods.

get a geet big metal spike and bray it into some solid ground further up the gut,(at target )then every time you go take a decent rope with you and attatch it to the spike it will make things much easier.

Well wherever you call it its a state, and the target (toll bar) wasnt too bad but they have removed the few steps at the bottom that where left and dug out the top so its soft mud- ive sank up to my knees a few times. :red:

I was talking to Gaverick about a rope ladder/rope but theres very few places solid enough to drive a spike in.
