Advice on weights / line

I know this has most likely been discussed to death, but I am after a few thoughts on line poundage and weights to use on a 13ft beachcaster / multiplier set up for beach fishing.

I'm currently using 60lb shockleader, 6oz weight, and 30lb main line - but cant seemto get past the 80 yard mark for casting. My rod is a greys orion and im using a daiwa slosh 20 multiplier.


Any advice is appreciated.

depends were your fishing mate, if your fishing clean ground i'd drop your line size down to 15lb, on a slosh 20. if your fishing rough ground your ok how you've got it, mind you i would use a bigger reel than the slosh 20 on rough ground

Cool, thanks. Why the bigger reel though? And also......... Ive put red AND white brakes on slosh, is this wise?

with the orion and a slosh20 you can hit a good 120yrds because i had the same set up about 3years ago ,i left 2 red brakes in and to make it slower or faster just use tension cap on side of reel.and your line you have on the reel is not for distance mainly for short casting for fishing rough ground, if you fish these marks great leave it on but for distance try 15lb 0.35mm the brand your choice and as for your shockerleader is fine..i hope you find this usefull.

the bigger reel holds more of the heavier line, has more pulling power and is more robust plus having a reel for the beach and one for the rougher ground saves you stripping you line if you change mark. As for the breaks, thats a matter of opinion, i have no breaks in my slosh20 (not that i use it much since i got my mag253), but that suited the way i cast, my advice would be put just one set in, and see how you get on, if your adding the breaks because your nesting the reel a lot you might find putting lighter line on helps as it will peel off easier.
