afaw new range of rods

brilliant rods but has he sorted the issues out with the spigots that wear in know time ,time will tell

That's always intrigued me - I've had three of the red rods, the oldest being about six years & never experienced any issues - the joints are still as tight as the day I got them. It does seem a common problem though, whatever the cause….the new Grand Prix does look quite tasty mind!

gary i had a couple off micky bell and have had numerous others to build up and put a little bit of life back into them fair do,s they wear but how do you get them repaired not like century where they fix them downside to getting them made cheap elsewhere heard a rumour julian was going to give micky bell a new grandprix for free with him catching that monster on 1 of his rods

I never really understood what was making them wear so fast - is the carbon too "soft" or something? I must admit I'm not a fan of those joints (which aren't really spigots) as they're parallel joints, same as Century's & most Zziplex's. I had big issues with the joints on my Zzippies, one of them wouldn't go together at all after a while it swelled so bad. And I've seen brand new Century's that knock so bad they've had to be sent straight back to the factory to have a new joint fitted. I much prefer the proper spigot-joints; no issues there, and after many years when the gap gets a bit close you just trim a quarter inch or so off the female section and with a new wrap on are good to go for several more years. I just wish more manufacturers would use them.

That would be a nice one for Micky if he does - I'd be rather jealous ;)

your dead right gary with the proper spigots no issues at all last for years and years carbon it self is a really strong material but has very poor wear qualities as for poor micky i thought when he caught his record fish on that brand of rod the lad should of got some form of a gesture off julian i mean how many people by on the strength of what rods can do and any other sea fishing related items for that matter pigs might fly springs to mind maybe it was,nt a afaw rod i do,nt know i,m quite sure it was a century rod are you listening simon chilcot lol
