After a new multiplier

I fancy a new reel and wor lass has offered to buy me one for my birthday next month. So what should I be looking out for??

Currently using an Abu 6500CT Sports Mag, but it's a bit lightweight sometimes IMO.

Ideally I'd like the new reel to have mag brakes as well.

Fire away lads!! ;)

If the hype is to be believed the new Greys reels are very good...know someone who's got a couple but he's not tried em out properly yet...

...I'd expect him to give his honest appraisal when he's had a go tho ;):)

Been looking at the Penn 525 Mag Extra.

Incidentally, where would I find the bearings inside my Sports Mag? I take it to bits and clean it after each use, but haven't seen any bearings!:confused::red:

I've tried the g-mag 6 series out on a few sessions now and i have to say i love it. Casts realy well and not nested it at all. It feels realy smooth and brings the fish in well enough (most i had on was 2 big whiteys).

Now for the bad points.........the paint on the casing is peeling off and as some will know i always wash my gear down well after every session so i'm not best pleased with this:mad: Yes this is only cosmetic but after 3 sessions it's not good!!

The 7 series to be honest hasn't been tried loads but when i used it the other day i was nesting it up on every cast. To be fair this was probably mostly down to me not setting the reel up before i used it. IMO this reel would be better suited as a boat reel as it's canny big.

Overall i think they are a canny reel but not sure how they will fair with all the great reels out there now!

I'll update when i've been back to the factory to see what the problem with the paint is:exclam:

I've been out for a few casts with the g-mag 7 after setting it up and have to say i love it!!

Time will tell how good they are but apart from the chrome flaking on my 6 series i love them.

If the write up's are to be belived they have taken all the best bits fron the penn's, abu's and diawa's and used them plus bettered them so they should prove to be good. The instructrions you get with them are excellent and even a novice like me should have no problem stripping them down and cleaning them. This can't be said about most of the instructions you get with the other reels mentioned. Very complicated looking things!!!!!

Like i say time will tell how good they are as they are new and most will already have thier favorite reel and probably stick with that!

Crackin choice of reel mate, ive got 2 and i swear by them.

I havent upgraded mine at all as i find them fine standard, the only thing i am thinking of doing is removing the magnets completely for more speed.
I did look into fitting the ugraded bearings but apparently it makes almost no difference.

i had 8 at 1 stage, i loved these reels so much !

would,nt bother upgrading the bearings unless they start to get really noisey.oil em once a month and they'll last forever
