hi im looking to take my brother in law and his son boat fishing for their first time, however they have no boat fishing gear and his son is 14.

so my questions were really...is 14 ok for charter boats or is there an age limit of say 16+ or 18+ also was wondering if they they hire gear out rods reels etc?

i thought i would ask here first as it would save me ringing boat after boat after boat.

also PM me there numbers if you know any

they are from Gateshead and im Cramlington so either Tyne or blyth harbour would be easy to get too, depending where the boat leaves, also if needs be we could head down the road to sunderland too.

(sorry it drifted off from main question i just couldnt stop typing lol)

thanks alot

i forgot to mention they have been shore fishing for about a year now so they arnt novices to fishing...just boat fishing.

from 10 onwards for a full 8 hour trip,i would say from my experience.younger than that they get bored, and have difficulty managing the gear, especially in deeper water(wrecks) like some adults:)most charters hire gear some let you use it free:)

I've been on The Sarah JFK when kids have been aboard, funnily enough they were amongst the few not spewing their ring (remember that trip Marc?) :D

Give Alan Skinner a ring, pretty sure he'll have gear to rent and he'll make sure the kids are looked after.
