Alan Varley knocks 1 a mile at NWSA

can,t beat a bit of good northern bombing will, roll on kirkleathen next sunday. just organise a nice breeze and a bit of dry grass, the lads will take care of the rest. ;);)

what size weight and line diamater was he using

125 on .28mm

I was there and saw it measured, awesome to see him 30 odd yards past the 250line with a big cheesy grin on his face!!

Well done and dont forget he is only a littleun probably 5ft9 or not much more. If only he had dannys bulk.

i thought it might of been with the light sinker and thin line .the lad done well and iam not trying to take that away from him .but i wonder how far it would of went with 0.35 and 150gm or 6 0z no one uses that diamater lines or light weight sinkers when distance fishing why did it change from 0.35

i think this might be of interest. --- alan varley, junior record holder uksf, cast 212mtrs with a 150 lead and o.31 line in 2000.
nieren roberts also a junior record holder cast 227.63 mtrs at uksf using a 150grm lead and 0.35 line. both were members of n.w.s.a at the time.

To give the little fellas an equal footing against the big lads!:)
I hear this a lot, some fellas are not blessed with 6ft 1 and 19 stone so the little fellas have to cast things in proportion!;)
Big lads can still move the little uns, just a little harder the other way round!;)
And the second part as to how far it would have gone with a 150 on .35 i would probs say around 260- 270 yrds, this is in a 14mph wind so probs pretty good no matter what!

nice cast alan, but tend to think that on a 150 or 175 it would have been a lot less.not knockin alan in any way but know he specializes a bit on 125 and imho thats a real shame ,. not enough people are castin what i call normal leads,ie the ones we use for fishin,ps the heavy lead is the 200 grammer.
ps size or mass does help but technique gets you the distance, look at andy green, little boy, very good technique and some fabulous distances on all leads.

Technique is a lot to do with it Martin, and a lot of people choose to cast the smaller leads because they can handle them. (i'm quite sure there would be a few injuries if everyone had to cast the 200g beast!)
There are a few little fellas that can cast the bigger ones on an equal footing,
but the size and strength dictates how far its going (coupled with technique of course!)
Like it or not, modern day casting has evolved and now gives a few more people a look in, and is probably a lot further from fishing than ever before.
I'm quite sure Alan and myself, would be a lot further down the table at the end of the day if we were on .35 and 175's, it's equal playing field now!:)
