I've just seen a post on Facebook saying that an angler has drowned on the beach "between Horden and Blackhall". If this is true, then our sympathy goes to his family and friends right now.

sad news mate , i know a lot of lads who fish this beach. its normally an easy relaxed fish , but i know where you are coming from about the beck when we`ve had a downpour.

All i.know is it was father and son fishing beckets and the dad tryed to cross the stream and got washed in, its a lethal spot as a few weeks back i was nearly washed in at the same place..

Thats what I heard. He was picked up half a mile off by sea-king 30 mins after going in! RIP.

My local beach and know a lot of the lads that fish it regularly! Dreading finding out who it is... :-/

My thoughts as well mate,Blanchie rang me when it happened, said a police helicopter first on seen then Sea-king lifted angler to Hospital.

He said he was also very lucky as a massive wave cleared the top shelf and washed his gear and fish back towards the dean,he was fishing the white rock but recovered his gear and fish next to the path way below the car park.
He up and off as soon as he could after that.
He said he had to wade off chest high,I'm pleased I didn't fish it today as I would have had my 4x4 there.

Thoughts go out to the lads family that was drown, very sad.

What a tragic day it has been. Thoughts go out to friends ,family to all that was hurt and taken from us. Rip. stay safe lads.
