Between Arbroath and Montrose in Scotland are miles of rocky coastline that given the right sea conditions and bait can produce good numbers of fish at this time of year.
Leaving my normal haunt of St Abbs on the South East coast of Scotland well behind I headed North over the Forth Road bridge and up the coast towards Angus for a couple of days looking for red Summer Cod.
After a long walk we found a likely looking place to try, full of kelp and hopefully fish!
You can never guarantee to catch fish these days but luckily for us the fish were there and hungry for peeler crab. A decent start and within a couple of hours we had one or two nice fish at our feet.
The fish were a lovely colour and had obviously been in the kelp for quite some time. Fantastic looking fish that were all put back where they rightly belong.
Best fish of our first evening's fishing was this cracking Pollack of 6lb. A larger fish was also lost to the snaggy ground close in.
A few more Codling for us and we called it a day as the light faded to return in the morning in the hope of a few more fish.

Next day
My pal Big Gaz had quite a good catch the evening before and I really hoped it would now be my turn. Luckily I was straight into a few fish while pal Gary was unfortunately struggling with severe back pain brought on by a recent accident at home and his fishing exploits the evening before.
Not many Wrasse in Angus it seems but I couldn't go home without catching at least one!
Float fishings great fun and I took a couple of fish to this method, a red Cod on the float fished 30 yds out.
My best fish of the trip, a beautifully coloured fish that certainly made all of the effort worthwhile!
A good average size of fish between 3lb to 4lb in the area.
The fishing tailed off around dinner time so I got out the jellyworms and was off jumping from rock to rock looking for Pollack. I managed four around a couple of pound and lost a big fish to the very snaggy ground.
We caught 20 decent fish, mainly Codling in the 3lb to 4lb bracket during our two day stay in Angus and I'm sure I'll be up again next Summer exploring even more of the Coastline looking for more of those fantastic Red Cod and hard fighting Pollack!
A lovely place to fish and if your fit and prepared to look about, you could find yourself on some cracking Angus rock marks.
