Antifouling paints

Antifouling paints

Tried them all and none come up to International.
You will not go wrong using Primacon and Micron extra, couple of coats each
job done.

I read all the hype on jotun and put jotun seaqueen on "Missy".

Not impressed and won't be using it again.

I really am so supprised at that one as i had it one in H,pool marina and never had any fouling and i have it on now in cardiff marina and no problems.

Did you do it yourself, and was the product in date as when i went to get some once i was given a tin which was out of date and i refused it.

I will check on the price of the coppercoat on our receipt when I get home but it was built in to the boat cost from CTC as that is what we wanted along with the stainless prop etc. We did a full investigation on the coppercoat at the Southampton boat show and due to in being an epoxy and protective coating as well as antifoul plumped for it. The saleswoman was fit as well which helped! If it lasts five years it still worked out cheaper if I remember correctly????
Ring CTC up and they might give you a price for the paint alone and a price for applying it. It's a bugger to apply with multiple coats required!

Hi for my charter boats i used nothing but international self polishing one good coat, how long it lasts depends on growth if you can pull it out and clean when it gets bad will last few seasons, but i found it cheaper to put a diver down with brush rather than pay to lift it

"The saleswoman was fit as well"....:D:D.....Quality......
With the boat only being small and i'll be taking it out on the trailer mid season for a quick clean, as the ramp is right beside the marina, i think i will go for the International, it seems the most popular and quite efficient..:)

Mine is copper coated Chris, no growth after a year in the water, just a thin layer of slime that washed off with a pressure washer at service time .
My thoughts on your boat, if you are going to lift it regularly, which I did with my explorer , you might want to check the effects of the trailer on anti foul, copper coat is hard epoxy resin and won't be affected by rollers etc, so I'm told , and it lasts ten years, now I'm not bothered about the costs so much as the inconvenience of having to lift and clean and reapply this stuff every year or two , I read up extensively on coppercoat before I ordered it , it has been on some boats or well over the ten years , there are some bad reports about it as well though , but the way it is applied will affect its performance , basically it is copper granules mixed in with epoxy resin and painted on to your hull, the amount of copper is what makes it effective, too little and it won't work as well , too much and it's illegal I believe , for environmental reasons .
One other thing about it, some say it needs a light abrasion at each lift to expose the copper , coppercoat told me to leave it be, this is my second year in the water with it applied, I left it alone when she was lifted, no abrading, so well see next year if its still as good.
Personally I'd get your boat coppercoated so I could lift her regularly for cleaning, it's so much easier to clean on the hard and I'd be worried about traditional anti foul rubbing off whilst doing that.

I always get the paint from Storrars, lets face it you cant send away for it !!!!!!!.
Go online and get the prices from their website, quote those prices when you go in the shop. I think I paid 83lb for the micron extra and about 40lb for the primacon(2.5ltr tins), that should be enough to do your boat twice(two lift outs).
Its OK I am at work and these Saudi keyboards dont have the pound sign on LOL.
Hows the fishing going or is there too much sea on, saw a lot of Northerly on Sky news

Davey..................

The sea is huge at the moment Davey, but dropping off during the week, the beach anglers are doing ok though

Ray, I need to find some prices out for Coppercoat, plus from what people are saying it needs to be specialist applied and i need to be doing it myself to keep costs down ( The missus is bound to say summit eventually ). I know what you mean about trailer abrasion when taking it out, but the size of boat i have i reckon 2.5l of antifoul should have plenty left over for touch ups after taking it out the water.:)

You can do it yourself Chris, (coppercoat) it's just epoxy resin, you can buy the kits to do it, it comes as the epoxy and the bags of copper granules , it's just a case of mixing it and applying it , the only hard part is it has to be done in.a certain time frame for the proxy going off so it will be hard work , but a 16 ft boat shouldn't be a problem for a man of your calibre ;). Have a look around the web and on YouTube , there is plenty information on it.
I kept my explorer on a pontoon and never anti fouled it at all, just brought it home every couple of months and gave it a good clean.

Our lass put Phantom 1's on, (copper coat) been 3 years now, 1 pressure wash since and still spot on. I was 3-4 knots down with the slime, . . .

Preparation is the hard bit. . . .
