Any idea what could be up with this reel? (Multiplier)

I went and bought a rod yesterday and was giving a Shakespeare hurricane multiplier with it, I put new line on it and when I tried to fish with it the handle would not turn and just slides around brining no line in and can be sometimes tough to try and turn, just wondering if anyone has an idea what could be wrong with it or would it just be best to just not bother with it. Any info will be a help.

Needs taking apart as any advice advice giving would be a total guess and to be honest the reel is not even worth using as a sinker they were about £29.99 brand new
The way your describing it could be knackered clutch but that would not make it hard to turn
so therefore could be rusted up bearings' you just don't know until taken apart.

Bit of a silly question has the star drag been tightened up behind the handle ?

As said has the star drag been tightened up ? If it has there could be oil or grease between the clutch plates

How is it a silly question? I've never used multis before and was given this reel with the rod for free, yes tried everything but dusnt seem to work, cheers for the replies just going to put it away and never bother with it.
