Anyone know a solution to a seized bleed nipple on a rear brake drum?

I'm assuming you've tried a bit WD40? if not what about a bit of heat if that's possible.

Can you take the nipple out?if you can then either clean the nipple with a pin or get a new nipple are you shore its the nipple?as i have never heard them seize before.Could it be the sliders or cylender prob think the cylinder is us mate.Easy enough to fix then you is as good as new If its an astra thats a common fault on them

It's the bleed nipple that threads into the back of the drum, the other 3 where no prob. Someone else (not me of course) has stripped the nut trying to free it which adds to the problem.

Or as a last resort weld something to it and unscrew and replace .

mole grips and lots of swearing. this method only works though after you left about half a pint of blood on the sodding thing and have no skin left on your nuckles

failing that, mole grips, snap the nipple, and use a small ez-out in the hole to extract whats left of it.

glad it not just me though, don't think I've ever done brakes on anything (aprt from the bairns push bike) without at least one bleed nipple refusing to budge

If it wont unscrew then get some heat on it,DONT USE EASY OUTS as when you screw them in it will put crap inside (metal dust)find a small socket then tap it over the nipple to it will fit then put the wrachet onto the socket and un do it then replace the nipple with a new 1 and then bleed all the brakes DONT FORGET TO BLEED THE BRAKES AND TIGHTEN THE NIPPLES UP(MOST INPORTANT) then everything will be ok

I dont fancy the heat and welding cos I'm a bit accident prone and have visions of a street full of cars on fire. I've tried the mole grips and blood method already but in vain.

The small stilson and new nipple idea is looking favorite for the next attempt, I'll post back here afterwards and let you know how it goes.

Best off just getting a new wheel cylinder, that will come with a new nipple aswell, putting heat on it does sometimes work but may knack the seals inside so better just to get a new one. If its a common car then the parts shouldnt be more than £10-£20.

pair of plumbers pliers, the ones with the long handle and hockey-stick head with gnarly teeth in the jaws.

as a side note, for anyone with a vauxhall zafira here, i went to bleed my rear brakes on my zaf (drums on the rear) and snapped both bleed nipples, they're very thin and poor quality on the zafira :-/

The best way to put some heat on to the seized nipple is to use a kettle full of boiling water. There's no chance of damaging the rubber seals. If it doesn't come off with molegrips / stilsons I think you'll need a new brake cylinder.

Ive been in the trade for 14years but never thought of using boiling water! Nice one marty, i'll try that one next time, its right what they say, your always learning! Ive found all vauxhalls are the same, think its cos the cylinders are ali and the nipples are just too soft and seize in too easy.
