anyone know why

Exactly so not appealing to everyone that is my point banning baits strengthen the match anglers chances and thats fact

Put the time and effort into learning to fish then. If you are a good angler then maybe you can compete on level terms based on angling ability.
If its all about bait why bother fishing, may as well have prizes for the best bait, prettiest worm, best on show!

Maybe they will my point was why ban baits the answer i was givingg was to make it fair. The real answer is to keep thd top m atch men top. If there that good why are they worried a bout some numpty angler like me turning up with crab. The same anglers who come winter time have trays of snake whites and fridge full of fresh crab to fish the opens with..

Exactly, theyre making the rules to suit them, because no disrespect theyre going to be better anglers than the people its appealing to because crabs banned

No offence but if you take your fishing seriously enough you can get crab when ever you want through the summer

If everyone had crab it gives everyone a chance, where as a bait ban cuts the amount of people who have a chance of winning it IMO

Yes but the point is not everyone has access to crab, whites etc, whereas most shops stock lug, rag and frozen baits all year.
Even then not all bait is equal, blow lug, blacks, gutted blacks, freshouts etc etc. You have to stop somewhere. It's a fact most top anglers are either bait diggers, tackle shop owners, loaded with money to buy the best bait or have so much time on their hands to collect it. Often at the tax payers expense!!

Bring on the bait bans LOL!!

Would these same top match anglers turn up for the seaham open if you werent allowed to use whites, yellows, blacks, frozen crab etc?

No doubt they would as these lads no how to catch fish no matter where they are and what bait they have to use.most travel all over the country fishing matches all with different rules and still hold there own

I used to fish the Seaham open regularly but don't very often now. Unless your camped out on noses point or the like then you have little or no chance. Its the same with the piers unless your lucky and get a good peg then it's a lottery.

Bait is very important but not the be all and end all, you can only catch fish if they are in front of you.

Its the same north tbh, anglers fighting for the best spot ganging up to put others off, it happens everywhere but not in a pegged match, hence why top anglers will travel to fish pegged matches including those with bait bans. It takes out the luck element and rewards their hard earned skill and effort.

Give me a pegged and zoned match any day along with any bait bans.

I don't think bait bans have anything to do with making it fair it's more to do with keeping it real. You can easily blitz 40-50 crab fishing for flounders or bits of rubbish but why when for a few quid you have everyone on a level playing field having an enjoyable days competitive fishing without saying if only I had that bait.

Fishing is expensive enough and having to carry around 10 different types of bait on the off chance becomes a bit of a joke, it's no wonder our bait beds are knackered.

It's not the bait it's the peg draw that matters...but you pay your money and take your chance...not like rover opens to many bandits about for me!!!!

People who run comps, have in general,a thankless task, because
someone will always moan, and it's impossible to please everyone.
I have fished every type of comp going, and have'nt twisted about
it,as i have made myself familiar with the rules before i entered.
I have also organised a few comps, and have had clowns whining
about the rules AFTER the finish!
Ask the moaners to run a comp that suits them, they won't
they're too busy etc.
They whinge because they won't play, but they can't take the ball
in cos it's not theirs!:D

alot of opens are won by someone being in the right place at the right time not top notch anglers with top baits , I know a few so called top notch anglers who have left clubs because they cant weigh in 50lb of flatties from the rivers using peeler derived from their own tyres. when others are fishing the coast looking for a decent bag of cod with 2 packs of lug from nets.

as for banning certain baits in comps , it makes for a fairer situation and then people cant moan at the weigh in saying " he only caught them cos he had fresh crab " etc !!!

many a match is fished "lug only" up and down our coastline

white worms

white worms

Whites are probably banned for conservation reasons.whites ain't like rag they grow real slow ,and they need certain conditions to live in and breed which is why you can't just dig them anywhere.a six inch white is maybe 5-7 years old so if everybody and their granny digs them pretty soon there won't be any left, they,ll be dug up and used before their old enough to breed.

Whites are banned because if someone has them theres a chance he'll clean up

Conservation has nout to do with it, just look what the diggers do to boulmer in winter
