I was up on the isle of skye at the end of august. Stayed in Carbost for a week. Fished from the pier every morning before anybody else got out of bed. I only had my spinning gear with me due to lack of space in the car but I was getting loads of mackerel and a few pollock. Saw a few salmon jumping too. Talking to a few local anglers that were about to fish a mini comp one day and they expected plenty of rays further out in the loch. Not sure what time of year they are found but they may still be there.
Also fished Neist Point for a few hours, awesome place but a hell of a hike back up to the car. Especially if youre fully loaded with all your gear. Loads of huge pollock about there but we had no luck with the spinning gear only a few chases.
The fishing shop in portree isnt great, half of it is a bike shop. The best shop we found was the tackle and gun shop in Dunvegan, right at the far end of town, its a proper shop and the bloke was dead helpful. Not sure if they do bait though.
Best of luck when youre up there and let us know how you get on.
