With any hook its a balance between sharpness/penetration and strength. Finer wire hooks in general will always be sharper than heavy wire ones. Your hook only needs to be strong enough to land the largest fish your likely to encounter.
Personally since I started using mantas and big mouths my catch rate went right up due to the fine points and extra sharpness. They bend which is exactly what you want when snagged, I've had quite a few Tope to 38lb on std 5/0 and they run , the only time I had one bend was when foul hooked in the root of the tail so they are perfectly fine on the fish caught on the north east coast
Use heavier hooks and you will miss more bites, lose more tackle and catch less fish FACT. Go too light however and you might lose that fish of a lifetime especially if lifting a fish up a pier wall. I fished a big match final using kamasan match aberdeens and was finding they were straightening on 6oz dabs!! There was a huge undertow to blame. I had to retie my rigs during the match not good!
Manta std are great hooks the only thing I would change would be to put a slightly bigger barb on, microbarbs are fine for catch and release but Id rather land every fish hooked.
