Just tied a few rigs up last night with these, out fishing today got snagged twice and they ( 2 seperating hooks) have bent out.

If you use em do you rate them ?

Hi to he honest on rough ground I use 30lb line with 70lb shock Ive regularly bent hooks out when snagged better than losing whole lot takes seconds to tie new hook on pain to have to put leader on.

I use Mantas, Manta Extras and Chinus. I have never had a problem with them.
I have lifted cod to 8lb on 2/0 Mantas (not extras) without any straightening. Just thinking that if you get snagged the last thing you want is for your hook to hold fast. I do not use Chinus on rock marks for that very reason as those things will never straighten out! A lot of people will use forged hooks on the rock ends so they straighten and can be bent back a few times.

Cheers fellas, they're mantas. Just the 1st time I've had hooks bend out, suppose it is easier ( as said) to retire a new hook than loosing everything.

I use Sakumas and I prefer them to bend out rather than hold fast or snap. Funny, I was just talking about Sakuma hooks with a fella on the pier today and he reckoned they were brittle.

I find the Sakumas a decent hook, caught some nice coddies on them with no issues at all.... as already said, they will straighten out under a lot of pressure but it will be better than losing the lot! Stick with them...

Sakuma. Extras every time ,even the circle type., i think the extras only go down to a 2/0,
But any smaller and they need to be a bit softer.

Use them all the time with no problems but as already said check the point and change if you need to. Varivas big mouth are an excellent hook as well.

cant fault the sakumas myself, they do a good variety find them very reliable in everyaspect.

my fav hook though is veals sa****er champions i was told of them by another member on here and pleased he told me of them thanks bill.

Last summer (fishingmark, Scotty and blanked again was there at the time) I managed to hook into a cod around 8lb on shields pier and on the lift the hook snapped. Mind as did the rest of the pack during the course of the day they were even snapping in my fingers. I put it down to a dodgy pack rest of the time they do tend to bend out but can be bent back to shape easy enough. The mantas and the extras are bloody sharp aswell

how longs a piece of string.

theres that many in the sakuma range- some will straighten, some will not.

which ones you use depends were your fishing

With any hook its a balance between sharpness/penetration and strength. Finer wire hooks in general will always be sharper than heavy wire ones. Your hook only needs to be strong enough to land the largest fish your likely to encounter.
Personally since I started using mantas and big mouths my catch rate went right up due to the fine points and extra sharpness. They bend which is exactly what you want when snagged, I've had quite a few Tope to 38lb on std 5/0 and they run , the only time I had one bend was when foul hooked in the root of the tail so they are perfectly fine on the fish caught on the north east coast

Use heavier hooks and you will miss more bites, lose more tackle and catch less fish FACT. Go too light however and you might lose that fish of a lifetime especially if lifting a fish up a pier wall. I fished a big match final using kamasan match aberdeens and was finding they were straightening on 6oz dabs!! There was a huge undertow to blame. I had to retie my rigs during the match not good!

Manta std are great hooks the only thing I would change would be to put a slightly bigger barb on, microbarbs are fine for catch and release but Id rather land every fish hooked.

there are rumours all over the net that both sakuma and varivas hooks specifically big mouths and mantas come off the same production line. i have also seen this on other forums aswel.

apperntly varivas are re-branded for exclusive uk for sale by veals mail order

put these hooks side by side and they are identical in every single way.
