Andysc...........

I agree with part of what you say - but disagree with other bits....

When I did the piece for the Shields Gazette, I was at pains to point out that the litter on the pier was not all fishing related.....and..... true to her word, the reporter made that pretty clear in her story. She was very much on the "anglers side".

However, I've go to say that a HUGE amount of the mess (particularly that up by the lighthouse) IS fishing related......and down to nobody else but "anglers".......as is the stench of piss up there aswell.

Why would the Council be to blame for not keeping the pier clean??
It belongs to the Port of Tyne Authority - not the Council.

Even so, although they own it - the "responsiblity" for keeping the pier clean and free from left over bait, fish guts, fish, discarded hooks & line, empty daylite packets, piss and whatever else, doesn't really rest with the PTA, either.......those who use the pier are responsible for how they leave it............don't you think?

last time I fished shields pier, was delighted to see some head the ball taking a dump around the back of the light, he and his mates thought it was really funny

was tempted to do as i do when out with the dog, bag it up and give it back to him, but thought better of it

not set foot on there since

When I fished it in the summer it was quite busy and all the rubbish was from fishing. From the small wall right around the end was busy when I got there but I found a free spot but in my ignorance I didn't realize that it was also the toilet. Some ******************** had also put down 2 pots on ropes that my spinners kept getting snagged on. That's prob the most selfish thing I've ever seen: "put ropes down and fish the other side"! Grrr, If I'd known I would have cut them loose. The 2 ******************* watched me and didnt say anything (prob had a good laugh at me). Too many witnesses to do anything about it tho'.......and the same ones were shouting and bawling at a small craft for getting too close to their lines.
I'd gladly pay a reasonable fee to fish good marks if the dickheads are kept away and prosecuted or banned for their selfish behaviour. Could you imagine what would happen on a charter boat if they picked a corner to piss in, another corner to put their pots down and nicked off to the other side of the boat so they cant smell the piss and get snagged up?

I've said it before dont blame the so called "idiots" for dumping rubbish,I've seen at least two very high profile fishermen leave rubbish on Blyth Pier, couple of arrogant tw#ts as well

Last year I was asked to have a word with the local tackle shops and I think I made a post on here about the idiots casting at the boats from Amble pier.
Shame the the stupid minority spoil it for the sensible majority
