Friday 24 Nov made the long haul up to Ferryden stopping at Newcastle to pick up bait and Rod eventually reaching the pub at 1600. Long haul. Decided not to fish that night and after being fed got watered!
Out first thing on Saturday Rod picked the rock ends between Usan and Boddin where we had caught last year. Managed about 16 between three of us keeping 9 for the freezer biggest about 5lb. Fished a lovely dying sea.
Rod managed to loose a nice fish which would have probably been his first double. Got the swell wrong and the fish was gone. Only saw its head.
Sunday I picked Bervie beach. Plenty of colour in the water and after talking to a local (police) fished the south end of the beach. Managed 3 codling - one each - all about 2 1/2 - 3lb.
Monday back to Bervie as the sea had got up but it was impossible to fish, although we got there before low water it was like high water. Huge swells. Tried Johnshaven same thing couldn't get anywhere near the rock ends. Gourdon the same. Two hours later we managed to get back to Usan which was about the only place to fish. Sea was all southeast and Usan is somewhat sheltered. Managed two for the freezer.
Tuesday and Wednesday we managed some more rockhopping - hopping away from the swells - although on Wednesday it had dropped off a bit but the wind was still strong from the South. Managed another 5 for the freezer all about the same size 2 1/2 - 3 lb. There really are some good rock marks along the coast which we would have tried had it not been for the sea.
We had lug for the first day and then after that it was frozen peeler mussel and squid. All caught.
The forecast for Thursday was not good and as we had hit most of the fishable places decided to call it a day and made the long trek back South stopping at Newcastle again to drop Rod off. Eight and a half hours back - 10 hours up. Well it is downhill!
A good week. We never blanked and Rod can dream of the double that got away.
