After bashing the macky a good few weeks ago on Roker Pier, my back was absolutely broke filleting them all, kneeling down on the pier floor.
Roker Ron mentioned he was thinking of a way to fix something to the railings to make filleting easier.
With this seed planted in my head i thought about how i could make filleting easier using the railings. So i got the diameter of the post and came home to make this filleting board. It fits nicely over the post enabling you to fillet your fish at a nice comfortable height.
I told Ron that i was going to get a patent on it so he doesn't go looking for Dragons Den. :D:D.

My mate made a railing mount to act as a rod rest white drain pipe from kitchen sink thats the stuff he used cut it into 3-4 inch lengths make them into a cross a cut out strips then pot rivet together hey presto 1 goes over the rail while the rod fits into the other

Crackin idea but what if it spins around and ur fish and possably lose the knife aswell

That particular post in the picture was quite tight and didn't move anywhere. But if it was a little slack and moving about, you could easily cut a few little wedges and tap them in around the post to keep it secure.
You could maybes tape a bit of cord/lace around your filleting knife then screw it to the board to stop it accidently falling into the sea.

ps. Didn't notice Trev mention about the tying string to the knife. :)

Steady on there, i've just been on the phone to Duncan Bannatyne (Dragon), and he's going to invest £5.99 on a hundred screws from Wicks. That's ok cos i'll go to B&Q and get them for a fiver.........:D.. This time next year i'll be a millionaire. :D:D

You may laugh at what i am going to say, but dont be surprised to find someone like Ian Golds, Breakaway or Gemini bringing out something along the line of what you have made.

Thats how they get their ideas, from unsuspecting anglers.

take Terry seriously mate, I designed a jigger out of a boat lead and put it on NESA, a few weeks later a very similar one appeared on two well known boat anglers web site. By the way a cracking idea and would save a lot of mess if all mackerel anglers had one, plenty of ways to fasten one to most pier railings or posts, straps, clips even clamps.
